Page 1 of 1 The most powerful series Golf ever built was presented for the first time at the 2002 international automobile fair in Madrid. The most important constructional point of the R32, which has a redesigned front, rear end and sill area compared to the other series production models, is a 3.2-litre V6 engine. In particular the front end, with its large air inlets, demonstrates the power of the engine. Technical features of the compact 6-cylinder engine, which is also used in the new luxury class saloon Phaeton, include continuously variable inlet valve timing, cylinder-selective knock control and a variable geometry intake manifold.
Power is transmitted to the 4MOTION four-wheel drive system fitted as standard via a finely stepped 6-speed gearbox. The sports running gear, lowered by 30 millimetres compared to the standard production model.
Inside the car, the black leather finish and brushed aluminium control elements - pedals, cockpit, gearstick - point towards the pedigree of this top model. The ambience of the interior is further refined by the comfortable sports seats with very good side support as well as by a special leather bound steering wheel. Page 1 of 1
