Page 1 of 1 Unveiled at the 2001 IAA in Frankfurt, the Spyker C8 Double 12 is a fully hand-built endurance racer developed to race in LM GT and GT-N class. At the 2002 Birmingham Motorshow the small Dutch firm unveiled the road going version, dubbed C8 Double 12 S.
The name Double 12 refers to one of Spyker's sporting successes in the early years of the 20th century. In the hands of the popular race driver S.F. Edge, a Spyker C4 broke the 24-Hour endurance record at Brooklands. He broke his own record set in 1907 in a race car, in the Maybach engined Maybach which basically was a road car. The record attempt was aimed at proving that by 1922 standard production cars could break records, which formerly could only be achieved by racing cars. As in those days the Brooklands track could only be used in daytime, the 24-hour record was spread over two days, hence the Double 12 record name.
Eighty years later Spyker again sets out to prove that its production cars are capable of sporting successes. Spyker entered a Double 12 R in the Sebring and Le Mans 24 hours races. At Le Mans the Spyker was quick but was let down by poor reliability.
The road going C8 Double S is equipped with a V8 engine available in five states of tune. Depending on tune this engine pumps out 400 to 620 bhp. Page 1 of 1
