In 2014, the open Morgan prototype racer was superseded by a closed cockpit model, dubbed the Ligier JS P2. This was the first clean-sheet design from Onroak since founder Jacques Nicolet acquired the company from Henri Pescarolo in December of 2009. Nicolet and the late Guy Ligier had teamed up in 2013, which allowed for the new car to dubbed a Ligier.

Built to the cost-capped LMP2 regulations, the new JS P2 was a conventional design, penned for the French manufacturer by Nicolas Clemencon. It was constructed around a carbon-fibre monocoque and featured push-rod actuated, double-wishbone suspension on all four corners. The Ligier was designed to accept a choice of engines, including Judd and Nissan V8 engines, and the twin-turbo V6 Honda engine developed by HPD. Regardless of the engine picked, the power was transferred to the rear wheels through an XTrac, six-speed sequential gearbox.

Testing commenced in the spring of 2014 with an eye on debuting the JS P2 at Le Mans. This marked the first appearance of a Ligier in the legendary 24-hour race since a JS2 placed second overall in 1975. Three cars were entered, two using the Zytek developed Nissan V8 and the other powered the HPD V6. The cars proved quick, claiming the LMP2 pole and eventually placing second in class and sixth overall at the end of the race. Since then, the Ligier JS P2 has been successfully raced on both sides of the Atlantic, clinching several class wins in the FIA WEC during the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

The single biggest success to date came at the 2016 Daytona 24 Hours where both HPD-engined Ligiers entered were fighting for the overall win for much of the race. Eventually, the type's first outright victory was snatched by the car entered by ESM Racing. The same team scored a repeat victory in the Sebring 12 Hours little over a month later with the same car. This is the fourth time only that the same car won the two American endurance classics in the same year.
