Chassis:
This car was retained by the factory and entered in the first race of the 1957 season for Belgian Olivier Gendebien. He won the Giro di Sicilia, GP Nuvolari and the Reims 12 Hours together with Paul Frere, and also finished third in the last Mille Miglia. In August Gendebien bought the car from Ferrari and added another major win to the 250 GT's tally; the Tour de France. He continued to race the car with great success for another season, making this car one of the most successful Ferrari racing cars ever. In the 1970s, it was restored to its 1957 specification and two decades later it joined the vast collection of a prominent British enthusiast. He used the car extensively in events like the Tour Auto where it is pictured above. In 2006 the car changed hands for a staggering $5 million, underlining the importance of this chassis.
