Chassis 0558LM was the third and final 121 LM constructed. It was used during the 1955 by the Works team with mixed success. Umberto Magioli drove the car to a second overall in the Giro di Sicilia and to victory in the Aosta-San Bernardo hillclimb. For that year's tragic Le Mans race he was joined by Phil Hill in 0558. They were forced to retire from fourth after the engine overheated shortly after midnight. In the fall of 1955 the 121 LM was sold to Ferrari's American representative Luigi Chinetti. Phil Hill drove the car again at that year's Caracas Grand Prix in Venezuela but again suffered engine problems. In the summer of 1956 a young Carroll Shelby added two victories to 0558's tally at Road America and Beverly.
Chinetti sold the car to privateer racer John Kilborn who struggled to get the 121 LM to the finish in the races he entered in 1956 and 1957. Upon its retirement 0558 was returned to Chinetti and eventually ended up in the Mas du Clos collection of Pierre Bardinon. In 1986, after a ten year ownership, Bardinon sold the car to compatriot Antoine Midy. In the next twenty years he campaigned the rare car in all the great events. He is pictured at one such occasion above, during the 2006 Le Mans Classic.
