This is one of four 911 R prototypes built early in 1967. Weighing in at just over 800 kg, this was the prototype the subsequent production cars were based on. In 1969, the car was sold to a French privateer, who fielded the Porsche in the La Ronde Cevenole Rally. Unfortunately, he could not keep up with his payments and the car was repossessed. In 1970, it was offered at auction, only to be stolen the evening before. The car resurfaced in 1971 and it was subsequently put into storage for 20 years. In 1995, the 911 R was campaigned once in the Tour Auto. With the exception of a fresh coat of paint in the early 1990s, it has survived in original condition. Today the prototype 911 R is owned by an American collector.
