Chassis:
The first of four Lotus Type 56s built, this was the car allocated to Joe Leonard for the 1968 Indy 500. He started the race on pole position and came within ten laps of winning the race when he was forced to retire with a turbine failure. The car was entered by Granatelli at Milwaukee and soon after sold to Parnelli Jones. He continued to campaign the car in the final races of the season and subsequently also converted it to piston power. In this guise it was raced with little success in 1969 before it was retired. Since then it has been restored to its Indy pole-winning configuration. Fully operational, was still owned by Parnelli Jones until recently and is now part of the Indianapolis Hall of Fame collection.
