Chassis:
Chassis DBR1/1 was built for the 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans and fitted with a 2.5 liter version of the six cylinder engine. Struggling against the bigger engined competition, the 'six' blew up in the race. In the first two races of the 1957, it finished second twice. Fitted with the full three liter engine, it was subsequently raced for several more seasons. In the glorious 1959 season, it won the Nürburgring 1000 km race. The car's final outing came at the legendary German track in 1962 where it still managed an amazing 4th despite its age. Among the subsequent owners were noted British and American collectors, including Bruce McCaw. In August of 2017, it was consigned to the RM Sotheby's Monterey auction with a pre-sale estimate in excess of $20 million.
