Never raced by Team Lotus, this Lotus 49B was sold directly to Rob Walker for his privateer team, which had scored Lotus' first Grand Prix victory back in 1960. Jo Siffert was tasked to drive the 49B finished in Walker's famous colours. He debuted with a win in the 1968 British Grand Prix, which would be the last for a private team. Following two years driving the Walker Lotus, Siffert left and for 1972 he was replaced by former works driver Graham Hill. The two-time World Champion could do no better than fourth before switching to a newer Type 72. Preserved in its Walker colours, chassis R7 is seen here during a rare outing at the 2002 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
