Chassis:
Completed in the summer of 1976, this is the only M26 that saw action during that season. It was driven in the Dutch Grand Prix by Jochen Mass with little success. This was also the only time an M26 competed without the radiator mounted in the nose. Rebuilt to the 1977 specification, it was pressed back into service during the 1977 season when it was raced four times by Jochen Mass but with little success. James Hunt also used it once, for the 1978 Italian Grand Prix where he retired after 20 laps with ignition failure. The first M26 has been owned for over a decade by the current British collector, who has regularly campaigned it in historic events.
