Chassis:
One of the very last 206 S Dino Spyders produced, chassis 028 was sold in the fall of 1966 to Edoardo Lualdi. He would go on to race the car with great success in national events and in hillclimbs until the end of the decade, scoring 22 outright and class victories. In 1972 he returned the car to the factory. Soon after, it was handed to Diena and Silingardi for performance upgrades. The most obvious was a 312PB-inspired body created by former Abarth aerodynamicist Francesco Guglielminetti. The car was also fitted with a 2.4 litre version of the V6, previously used in Tasman racing. Why exactly this was done is not very well documented.
Despite the upgrades, chassis 028 was not raced again in period. Instead it was offered by the factory for a reported 8 million Lira. It was finally sold in 1976, to World Wide of Cars in New York. It was soon after bought by American enthusiast Bill Gelles, who regularly campaigned it in historic events. The current custodian acquired the extensively modified 206 S Dino in the early 1990s and continued its historic racing career. The car is currently fitted with a copy of the Guglielminetti body to preserve the unique panels. The one-off 206 S Dino has now been consigned to RM Auctions' May 10 Monaco sale with a pre-sale estimate of EUR 1.5 - 2 million.
