Chassis:
This was one of three Alfa Romeos entered in the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans race. All three of them were out of the race before the halfway marque with technical difficulties. It was the last Works entry for the coupes and two of the cars were handed to coachbuilders to be turned into show cars. The ex-Karl Kling / Fritz Riess car was handed to Boano and rebodied for Argentinian president Juan Peron.
Later in its life chassis 00126 was purchased by Alfa Romeo enthusiast Henry Wessels. Unfortunately he crashed the car heavily in the 1980s, damaging the unique Boano body. Wessels decided to rebuild the car with a body similar to the Colli designed and built bodies as used by Alfa Romeo at Le Mans. In this configuration the car has since been raced extensively at historic events like the Le Mans Classic where it is pictured above in the hands of the legendary Phil Hill.
