Chassis:
This 4CLT was sold new to prominent Italian privateer racer Franco Rol. He first raced his new Maserati at the 1949 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, where he retired with an engine failure. Rol continued to campaign the car, regularly entered by the Maserati works team well into the 1950 season but with limited success. It was later raced by another Italian in Formula Libre events before being sold to the United States, where it was entered but failed to qualify for the 1957 Indy 500. Since then, the car has changed hands several times and is today part of a hugely impressive German collection. Chassis 1604 is regularly raced in historic events by its current custodian.
