Completed early in 1957, chassis 0115 was sold new to prominent American privateer racer and entrant John van Neumann. He entered the 550A for that year's Sebring 12 Hours but only made it to the reserve list. In 1960, it was acquired by Seattle-based Volkswagen dealer and talented privateer racer Pete Lovely. He retained the car for over a a decade and it subsequently remained in the United States until the early 2010s. During the mid-2000s, the rare Porsche was meticulously restored.
