Chassis:
Chassis FW18-01 was the first of six FW18s constructed for the 1996 Formula 1 World Championship. It was used by Damon Hill in the opening three races of the season. He clinched two pole positions, set one fastest lap and most importantly scored three wins in this car. After laying the foundations for Hill's Driver's title, chassis FW18-01 was retired from active duty. It did serve as the team's T-car at the Monaco Grand Prix.
The three-time winning chassis was retained by Williams until it was offered, together with a host of other Williams Formula 1 cars and spares, in the December 2005 Bonhams Auction. The sale was canceled after a collector came to an agreement with Williams to purchase all lots in one go. Now in private hands, FW18-01 is seen here at the 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed where Sir Frank Williams' forty years in Formula 1 were celebrated.
