Chassis: 0170ET
Completed early in 1952, this car started life as a 212 Export. It was acquired new by Dr Augusto Caraceni, who was the son of tailor to the starts Domenico Caraceni. Augusto Caraceni entered the car in the Mille Miglia but failed to make it to the finish. He continued to race the car throughout the season with considerable success and became the Italian hillclimb champion in his class. Early the following year, chassis 0170ET was returned to the factory, where it was upgraded to 225 S specification with an enlarged engined and revised suspension. Ferrari then sold the car to a Dutch enthusiast, who raced the car through 1956, mainly in local events. During the 1960s, it was sold to the United States and has since changed hands regularly. In 2010, it was sold at auction and at the time was fitted with a later 250 GT-sourced engine. (Source: Ferrari by Vignale, by Marcel Massini)
