Chassis:
Styled by J. Herbert Newport for Duesenberg, this Convertible Coupe combined the traditional Duesenberg design elements with the latest streamlining trends. Although the pseudonym LaGrande was used, actually responsible for the construction was the local A.H. Walker Body Company, who built just three examples. This is the only one of three fitted on a supercharged chassis. It was acquired new by a Chicago banker, who traded in his earlier Murphy Convertible Coupe. He retained the car for two years, clocking up an impressive 50,000 miles.
A subsequent owner crashed the car, requiring the frame to be replaced by a spare, with the number 2405. By the late 1950s, the car had made it across the country. It was spotted on a Hollywood used car lot by early enthusiast Thomas Magee, who paid just $1,500 for the car. He sold the car on to another Duesenberg enthusiast, who had the unique LaGrande Convertible Coupe carefully restored. Among the subsequent owners was noted collector General William Lyon. During the late 1990s, it was restored once more, this time by Steve Babinsky's Automotive Restorations.
