Chassis:
The second Lola T70 built, this car was originally fitted with a Ford V8 but this was quickly replaced by a more competitive Chevrolet V8. During the 1965 season, it was raced with considerable success by David Hobbs If it wasn't for a time-keeper's mistake, he would have won that year's Tourist Trophy on aggregate but he was placed second by the RAC, who refused to correct their mistake. He did win the Guards Trophy at Mallory Park and also raced the car in North America. Chassis SL70/2 was then acquired by American Monte Shelton, who raced the car extensively during the 1966 and 1967 seasons. Before the end of the decade, the second ever T70 was sold to an enthusiast who retained the car for 30 year. Subsequent owner Bob Erickson then had it comprehensively restored. As underlined by recent outings at the Goodwood Revival, ex-David Hobbs T70 is still hugely competitive. In 2017, chassis SL70/2 was consigned to the Bonhams Goodwood Members' Meeting sale.
