Chassis:
The first of two BMW V12 LMs built, this car was fielded at Le Mans in 1998 for Steve Soper, Tom Kristensen and Hans-Joachim Stuck. At the Test, it was 20th fastest and eventually lined up for the race in 12th. Along with the sister car, it retired very early due to vibration issues. It then passed to Thomas Bscher, who fielded it during the 1999 season with the help of David Price Racing. They had a disastrous debut at the Sebring 12 Hours but had a much better time of it at Le Mans. Driven by Bscher, Soper and Bill Auberlen, chassis 001/98 finished an impressive fifth overall. Later in the year, Bscher, now driving with Pedro Lamy, also managed to place fourth at the Nürburgring round of the SportsRacing World Cup. Without the help of DPR, Bscher ran the car again for a few outings in 2000, including at Le Mans where a gearbox failure ended the charge early. Its final outing came at the Nürburgring where an engine issue prompted a retirement. Chassis 001/98 has since remained in Bscher's collection, in the configuration and condition as it last raced. In 2016, it was shown by KW Autos at the 2016 Retromobile. With the sister car comprehensively modified, this is the only V12 LM remaining in its original guise.
