Chassis:
Belgian Bugatti enthusiast and dealer Jean de Dobbeleer bought many of the Type 73C components in 1960, including engine number 2 and the chassis components to build up this car. In reference to the engine, it was given the chassis number 73C002. The car was completed in 1961 and sold to an American enthusiast. It remained in North America until 1973 when it was acquired by Tom Wheatcroft, who was in the process of building the formidable Donington Grand Prix Collection. Using one of two designs believed to have survived, Wheatcroft had a new body built for the Type 73C. This body featured a distinct divided grille and also came with removable fenders. The Type 73C was part of the Grand Prix Collection until 1993. It then moved back across the Atlantic and has since changed hands twice more.
