Chassis:
Built around unused Type 54 chassis 54213, this Type 59 debuted at the 1934 Monaco Grand Prix with Robert Benoist. Unfortunately, an accident in practice prevented him to take the start. It was then raced by Dreyfus, René Benoist and Dreyfus again in the French, Belgian and Spanish Grands Prix respectively. A fourth for Benoist at Spa-Francorchamps was the car's best result. Ahead of the 1935 season, it was sold to Brian Lewis, who raced the car extensively on both sides of the Atlantic. Subsequent owners continued to campaign the Type 59 through to 1950. It was then sold to the United States where it changed hands several times but was only rarely seen in public. Since the turn of the century, it has been in European ownership again but is still only shown very rarely.
