Chassis:
Completed in September of 1961, this all alloy SWB was sold new to French privateer racer André Simon. He immediately fielded the car in the Tour de France but failed to finish due to engine issues. He then placed seventh overall in the Paris 1000km race at Montlhéry. Simon continued to campaign the car with considerable success during the 1962 season. For that year's Tour de France, chassis 2973GT was fitted with wider wheels and tyres similar to those fitted on the 250 GTO. This helped Simon win the race overall with Maurice Dupeyron as the co-driver. Retired from contemporary racing at the end of the season, it passed through various French hands before it was acquired by Price Sanguzko in Paris in 1970. In his ownership, the car was completely restored. Early in the 1990s, it passed into longtime British ownership. The current owner then acquired the car in 2015 and had it prepared for historic racing. Chassis 2973GT made its historic racing debut at the 2016 Goodwood Revival where it was driven to victory in the inaugural Kinrara Trophy by the owner and nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen.
