Chassis:
Sold through the dealership in Paris, this Type 35 Grand Prix car remained in France through to the early 1930s. It was then acquired by American enthusiast Wallace C. Bird, who raced the car in local events on the East Coast. Following his death in 1941, the car remained in storage at his famous Farnsworth Mansion until his wife also passed away in 1961. From the estate, it was acquired by noted collector Henry Austin Clark. He would own the car for two decades and then sold to the subsequent long-time custodian in the early 1980s. From his collection and still with the original chassis, body and engine, it was consigned to the 2017 Gooding Scottsdale auction. Having had only three owners since the 1930s, this fabulously preserved Type 35 is estimated to sell for $2.6 - $3.2 million.
