Chassis:
First raced in the 1980 South African Grand Prix, this 312 T5 was used for most of that season by defending World Champion Jody Scheckter. He made eight appearances with chassis 046 but only managed to finish in the points once by placing fifth in the USA Grand Prix West. The results were typical of the very difficult season the whole team had. Not raced again after the Dutch Grand Prix in August, it was eventually acquired by Luigi Chinetti Jr. From his ownership, it passed to an American historic racer in the late 1990s. He has since raced the car extensively in historic events. After nearly two decades of ownership, he consigned this 312 T5 to the August 2017 Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction. Beautifully maintained by Phil Denney, the car is ready to race.
