Chassis:
Built ahead of the 1986 season as chassis 003, this car was first raced at the Silverstone round of the 1986 World Sportscar Championship. It then also raced at Spa and Le Mans before it was brought back to Japan. Here it won the GTP class in the Fuji 1000 km. Over the winter, the car was rebuilt and renumbered 103. Its first outing in this guise was at Le Mans where it finished seventh overall and first in the IMSA class. This was 103's only outing in 1987 and it was eventually sold to Shizumatsu Racing. They continued to campaign the car in Japan from 1988 through to 1990 when it still placed eighth overall in its final contemporary outing. The car made its way to Europe and during the early 2010s was comprehensively restored to its Le Mans class winning configuration by specialists Phil Stott Racing. The car was then sold to a Swiss enthusiast and actual Mazda dealer in his native country. Following a careful preparation in his own shop, the car was shipped to the United States to compete in the 2017 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
