Chassis:
This unique Franay bodied Duesenberg J, which was commissioned by Queen Maria of Yugoslavia. Before she took delivery of the car it was on display at the 1931 Paris Motorshow, where it was joined by another Franay bodied Duesenberg. The Queen clearly enjoyed her elegant Covertible Sedan as she put well over 50,000 miles on it before she sold it. In the following years it moved via Peru to the United States where it still resides. Sometime during its history the original fenders were replaced by torpedo style fenders and separate running boards. Following the Royal Family’s ownership, it spent time in Peru before it was repatriated to the United States. In 1996, it was meticulously restored.
In 2002, 'J-446' joined the collection of a prominent American collector, who enjoyed driving the car regularly just as Queen Marie did. It is in excellent condition, and is topped off by a Lalique mascot. The royal Duesenberg was brought back to Europe in 2005 specifically for the prestigious Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance where it is pictured. A rare sight in Europe, the Duesenberg attracted a lot of attention and was awarded by judges with a second in class prize. Following a single ownership of over 20 years, it was consigned to the 2024 Bonhams Scottsdale Auction.
