Chassis:
This was the second of three new XJR-8 chassis built for the 1987 season. It was used predominantly by Raoul Boesel and Eddie Cheever in the sprint races of the World Championship. The car was raced to four of the XJR-8's eight victories that year, which was enough for Boesel to be crowned champion. It was subsequently upgraded to XJR-9 specifications and campaigned for two more seasons. As an XJR-9 it was entered at Le Mans twice with 8th in 1989 as the best result. At the end of that year, it was retired to the TWR Museum.
After the bankruptcy of TWR, the car passed into private hands for the first time. Chassis 287 was prepared for racing again and fitted with the XJR-8 style bodywork, to honour its most successful season. From 2008 it has been competed in select events by Justin Law. That year and again in 2009 he set the fastest time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, beating several well driven Formula 1 cars. In 2010, Law drove the XJR-8 to victory in the Group C support race of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Chassis 287 is pictured at each of these occasions.
