Fitted with a Chevrolet V8, this McLaren M1A was delivered new by Elva to American gentleman racer George Wintersteen. He extensively raced the car throughout the 1965 season, appearing in USSRC events in the United States and also in the Brands Hatch Guards Trophy. Ahead of the 1966 season chassis 20-10 was sold to Canadian John Cordts, who campaigned the car for a further two seasons. Upon its retirement, this M1A remained in Canada until 1979. It was sold to the United States where it was fully restored to the famous black and silver works livery. In 1985 the car was acquired by German Peter Kaus for his Rosso Bianco museum. In 2006 the complete collection changed hands and M1A was auctioned off later in the year. It was briefly raced in historic events and subsequently re-restored to its period correct livery and was sold at auction again in 2010.
