The featured 500 K is equipped with the 'Cabriolet C' style bodywork; the largest of the three 'Cabriolet' styles. It was sold new to a German businessman from Hamburg and he held onto his elegant Mercedes until it was confiscated immediately after the War. The 500 K was repainted in camouflage colours by the British and served as a staff car for several years. Remarkably the original owner managed to buy his precious machine back and it remained in the family until the 1980s. Having just received a three year restoration, it seen here during the 2007 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.
