Although Porsche officially ceased 935 production in 1979, the German manufacturer continued to supply their preferred customers with a full range of spares, including complete chassis. Among these preferred customers was Georg Loos, who late in 1979 requested Porsche to build him a custom 935 for the 1980 season. Among the changes specified were a full carbon-fibre body and revised suspension geometry. Porsche initially declined but in the end did build a car for Loos, which featured a body similar to the 'Baby' 935 raced by Porsche in 1977. Known as the 935/80, this is believed to be the final complete 935 built by Porsche.

Georg Loos' Gelo team fielded the latest 935 in the 1980 DRM series in Germany for Bob Wollek. Facing strong competition from a wide range of 935 variants, Wollek took one victory and finished on the podium several times. Gelo also raced the car at Le Mans where Wollek was joined by Helmut Kelleners. They set the fifth fastest time in qualifying but failed to finish the race due to a piston failure. At the end of the season, it was retired from active duty, only to resurface in Australia in 1982. Here it was campaigned by none other Alan Jones for Porsche Cars Australia in the local GT Championship. He absolutely dominated the series, taking eight victories in as many races. In 1983, the unique Porsche 935/80 was raced by Rusty French, who added three further victories to its tally. In recent years the ex-Gelo Porsche has returned to Germany and following a restoration to its original configuration, it has been campaigned in select historic events.
