One of just 11 Ghibli SS Spyders built for the European market, this example was ordered new by a London-based American publisher to use at his French Riviera villa. Meeting the client's high demands, it was equipped with all thinkable extras before he picked it up himself at the factory in Modena. He held on to the car for several years and through a succession of Dutch and German owners until it joined the Von Schnmieder collection in Switzerland in 1987. After extensively using the car, it was sold along with the rest of the collection in 2001.
During the subsequent years, the rare Ghibli SS Spyder passed through several more hands before it was acquired by Simon Kidston. He had the car completely restored to its original condition and colour scheme by Carrozzeria Autosport in Italy. Upon completion, the Maserati was entered in the 2007 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este and subsequently also featured in several magazines. Kidston eventually sold the car on and it will now be offered in Gooding & Company's Scottsdale auction on January 20th. Advertised as the best Ghibli in existence, it has an impressive pre-sale estimate of $700,000 - $900,000.
