 Long live displacement!

Well you ford boys I hate to burst your bubble but the only good ford was Henry and well...........He's dead. Let me put it this way. Even though the Ram boasts the massive 8.3L of displacement there is still the fact that it uses 2 valves per cyl and still use push rods, and their blue oval friends had to resort to using 4 valves per cyl { 3 in the harley edition } and overhead cams. Finding out that they still had a weak engine they resorted to superchargers for the additional boost, and if that wasn't enough they needed to use a super cooling system in the concept lightning just to go nose to nose with a 2 valve per cylinder push rod powered classic american engine. I think ford is still sore about the Hemi. The first engine to produce an equal HP to CI ratio in a naturaly aspirated pushrod engine. Who is laughing now. LONG LIVE DODGE.

Dodge has already givin it the green light. So yes... it WILL see production. The Chrysler Corp. has a long standing tradition of producing many of the concepts they throw out. More so than any other manufacture, I'm willing to guess. Second... I've already stated the main advantage of that big @$$ V10. A BROAD FLAT TORQUE BAND, more so than any supercharged sb v8 could offer. That has always been a key advantage of big displacement engines. You want another reason? Tried and true performance and dependability. Rather than expirimenting with a new formula than could be botentially desasterous and not work at all (probably like the new lightning will be) they are offering customers a sure thing. This engine as proven it's worth on the street, the strip, and the track. And I have no reason to doubt the performance claims posted by dodge. The Silverado SSt or SS or what ever the hell they're calling it, doesn't have those 480 horses some one was talking about on here. In fact your off by about 120 ponies. It's 360 horses if I'm not mistaken, with an obscenely heavy drive train (big disadvantage to AWD). Soon enough we should have the answers to most of the debate though. Provided Ford get there's out in ttime.

You guys just don't get it do you? First off to biffsbiz, yes a properly set up viper engine can make ungodly amounts of power with a supercharger. But guess what? It doesen't come with one! Have fun spending those wads of cash to supercharge your p.o.s. two valve per cylinder pushrod engine. Us ford drivers will be happy with our 5.4 four valve dual overhead cammers supercharged from the factory thank you very much. Oh and you know what else? We have something called a warranty, which means if something goes wrong with our truck, it gets taken care of. Whilst your engine detonates cause it wasn't meant to be boosted and you pull out your wallet again because you voided your warranty when you put your blower on. To freakmania, you do realize that your truck is going to way close to 5,000lbs. don't you? Bigger engines mean more weight of course, and more weight means slower vehicles. The new lightning will smoke an SRT/10, I guarantee it. It's simple really, they both have about equal amounts of power, but the SRT/10 weighs more. Obviously the Lightning will be faster. Finally the Lightning engine isn't really that new. The 5.4 has been in F-150's for a while, not supercharged mind you, but it's hardly unproven. SVT will have this thing all worked out trust me. They've been developing this engine in the Lighning and the new GT. Do you think they're going to release their new supercar to the world with any kind of reliability issues present at all? Certainly not, they are counting on the GT to help give them and Ford the rep they deserve. So when they do come out be sure to watch what happens. A whole lot of SRT/10's are going to get blown away by Lightnings, and your Vipers will be watching the GT pull away.

"First off, the SRT-10 hasnt even came out yet. the projected performance numbers are equal to the Lightning's. The Lightning is 330 cid vs the 500 summodd of the SRT-10? Why does it take Dodge MORE to do the same as the Ford with less? As of now, theres no comparison, maybe when the truck actually comes out, we'll see if it will compete w/the present Lightning, no to mention the new Lightning, and there will be a new Lightning. Does anyone think Fords gonna let the ""fastest production pick-up"" title go that easy especially when its somethin' thats that close to, or equal to it, I seriously doubt it."
 Ram or F150?

Comparing the dodge ram with the ford f150 lightning isn't hard, the ram is easily the better looking pickup but f150 is considerably more practical but is a lot higher off the ground. The load space on the ram is greater but cabin space is smaller than the ford f150 but the ram is the better overall pickup in my opinion. Looks like dodge is giving ford a run for it's money!
 Viper versus Lightning

"Ooops, lets see, are we really comparing anything similar here? The fact that they are ""trucks"" is about it. Complaining about engine power per cubic inch is perposterous. To compare them on that level you'd have to supercharge the Viper. Superchargeing can be very effective. A Properly set up Viper with supercharging produces 750hp. The Viper engine is well suited to supercharging because of it's comparatively low compression ratio. The Viper engine is well suited to any kind of race enhancement. This is because it is an incredibly-strong light-weight and well-designed engine. Anybody that says differently is not at all auto-knowledgeable. Vipers are in a class by themselves. I say this as an owner of Vipers, Porsches, BMWs, Mercedes, Hummers and some American cars. P.S. Corvettes are junk."

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 will destroy the Chevy Silverado SS. To me, the SS stands for super slow. The Ram SRT-10 is the fastest production pickup. It will even beat the F-150 Lightning.I hope the Ram SRT-10 isn't outrageously expensive because it would be a nice truck to buy.
Dodge is a whole lot better than ford.

The new ford svt lightning concept with the 500 hp engine is going to stink. There is no way that it will be able to beat the srt-10. If you ever get a lightning with 500 hp you need to take it to the drag strip and see if you can beat the srt-10. Don't try supping it up, run against an srt-10 stock. Both of the trucks will be lined up at the christmas tree waiting on the lights. The stageing lights come on and you both rev up. Then it turns green and you both floor it. Do you know what's gonna happen? The lightning is going to either lose, stall, or fall apart half way down the track. Don't get a lightning, there not good enough. The viper engine has been around for a while and the lightning engine is new. Any ford vehicle you get is going to do this unless you put a dodge engine in it. But then it might fall apart, only because dodge engines have to much power for fords.

The new dodge truck is an awesome vehicle. Most people say puttin the v-10 in it was dumb but that is jus because it is faster than what they can put up against it that is in its class. I myself am a strong hater in chevy and a lover of fords and dodges, dodge makes the srt-10 with loads of power and it is extremely fast, ford makes the SVT lightning that also has tons of power, then there is chevy, who makes the SS which is a 4x4 and weighs a ton and also has a junk engine in it that doesnt even make it close to being fast (like most chevy so called performance vehicles) So for any chevy fans out there critisizing this truck or the ford svt lightning, quit bein jealous that chevy cant compare to it.
 Proud of your Dodge, boy?

"Ford ie: the new Lightning, is running circles around you unless you think producing the same HP using 2.9 more liters and the corresponding additional fuel consumption merits anything to brag about. Now, of course, I could've missed the article about the Viper w/ a truck bed being miserly or LEV! In black-n-white boys: Lightning = 1.51 H/P and Ft lbs torque per C/I (500 / 500 @ 330.1 C/I displacement) SRT = .98 H/P and 1.03 Ft lbs torque per C/I (500 / 525 @ 507 C/I displacement) Lets see, the Lightning achieves rated HP @ 5250 rpm and torque @ 3250 rpm. SRT @ 5600 rpm for HP and 4200 rpm for torque. You lose again! Dodge's inadequacies would even be more pronounced had the Lightning's ratings been calculated with the Super Cooler activated! They should've named the SRT ""Thunder"". ""The Lightning does the work, the ""Thunder"" (Dodge) just makes noise!"" The Dodge is a hot one but the Lightning wins! Back to the drawing board, or coloring books in this case! I guess Dodge will still pass everything. (except a gas station, and a Lightining.) ;O) The GM SST (Super Sh_t) is a joke and shouldn't be mentioned in the same area code as either the Lightning or the Dodge. Have a nice day! I hear all this talk about how the SRT/10 is going to dominate any leading pickup in it's class and i have one word for you people who think that.... GARBAGE. They've been talking the srt/10 ram up so much but I have yet to see it thrown onto the production line. Chevy on the other hand put there 480 hp Silverado SST on production December 2nd. So if you want to hear something other than bullshit from a company that just makes their vehicles spinoff's of others, then drop this dodge ram garbage and get real, it aint coming out.

The Dodge SRT 10 looks ... somewhat strange. A Ram with the Viper's 500hp and torque. I can't wait to get behind the wheel of one! Awesome idea, but is it really that fast? 5.2 seems a little too fast...
 Ford what?
the real deal
1-5-2003
The new Dodge SRT-10 is the s---. Plain and simple. With the manuel tranny that conforms to the driver's skills, the truck is far ahead of the game. The ford lightning is alright for the occasional thrill seeker, but the new SRT-10 is for the individuals that live like the rest of America dreams about. This ain't no horse a-- family van, this thing is what a truck is all about. I like Chevy alot. I own one now, but they just can't compete. Ford atleast is trying, but they never should've taken off the factory nos. Anyway, the new lightning is to the new Dodge what a fat, old, hairy, toothless winch is to a Playboy centerfold.
 This truck has 3 purposes!!!

This truck has been brought to us people for 3 reasons. Reason #1. Kick the crap out of all Lightings! Reason #2. Kick the crap out of all Silvarado ss's Reason #3. Do the first two steps over again and enjoy it this time!!!! This car is a truck. Not a muel, like what I do to my trucks. But a fun truck. Eveyone does this. Ford, Chevy, and now Dodge. It's a competitor, but a crazy one that'll nock the socks off of it's rivals. With a crazy Viper motor and finaly a manual transmission. Great idea Dodge!!!

"No... the BMW is not a truck. A truck is something who's (original entention) were utility. In recent years more and more car companies are applying luxuray tech to trucks (SUV's, pickups, etc.). But most of these are usually litle more than fancied up trucks who's entensions are originally utility, & functionality. I know your going to ask ""why not the X5?"" To put it simply a truck is, and always has been, made with body on frame architecture. The X5 is a fabulous SUV, but it's made on slightly adapted 5 serious chasis (or platform). It's primary entions were people transportation, rather than work related activities. The BlackWood unfortunately is a ""truck"", and I use the term truck very loosely here. It's basically a fancied up F-150 Supercrew (I loath for trucks). It's still the traditional body on frame construction. Besides, I hate the intior of the blackwood. It's not that eurgonomic, and it's only luxuary qualifications are upgraded enterior materials. But unfortunately, it's still a truck."

Firstly nothing is wrong with black sunshine, it is just that he is so influenced by american language that anything that has jacked up suspension and huge body mass is a truck! That i think is very crazy. Manufacturers did not come out with the SUV moniker for fun and for all your information they sell millions of suv a year but they get billions. If not for suvs i think many manufacturers would have been bankrupt by now. The suv market noe is doing very well(obviously)and i think the suv craze will not end anytime soon, hell i think it would not even end!!!

Are cars like the BMW X5 and Licoln Blackwood considered Trucks in you're book BlackSunshine? both show that car companies can take interior design seriously in a truck, whether or not you prefer it. An interior is often a thing that makes or breaks a car, if you ain't comfy, luxurious and up with the times, many people will walk away from sale. I am in agreeance with you over the new Viper however, the exposed bolts and such really add to a industrial design cabin.

"Why would anyone ever exclaim that the Dodge Ram Pickup or most Chrysler products have short changed a driver in the interior sector has got to be a Complete Idiot. The one virtue they have always possessed to a higher degree is unique bold designs, both inside & on the skin, but they were always unpredictable on the quality issues. Now they appear to have this resolved (it's about time) & the damn engines (notably the 5.7) are without peer. Sales & long term customer satisfaction are what its all about; and they are gonna sell the living crap out of this mini-Kenworth...believe me & while your looking, sell that bland stupid-named Tundra. This is a truck people. It's interior was originally designed for utilitarian purposes. Not looks or comfort. Look... performance or not, it's a truck. When I buy a truck... I don't care about urganomics and that crap. I just want it to work, work well, and be durrable. Personally, I rather like the spartain enterior of the new Viper SRT-10. This is a truck people, what were you expecting? BMW type comfort? No, it's a truck. Get over it.

As i see more and more dodge concepts coming out during motorshows i see nice interiors for their concepts but then you look at their production cars and you go crazy. For that kind of price tag i think i would prefer an old toyota corrola. Look at the viper. The new SRT/10 convertible looks good on the outside but doesn on the inside. It fact the interior is soo bad that you will feel bad driving the car but you will feel soooo good looking at its wonderful exteriors. They have wonderful exteriors but inside the car is where you are the most so why not do something porper there. The gear stick looks like something out of a Toyota van and that stupid ugly looking dash, unexplainable!!

what are we driving here, an 18 wheeler? This interior just doesnt compare to the new lighting's. I think Dodge could have done a better job on that.

28-2-2003
"The Ram SRT 10 makes any Ford P'UP look like an old Studebaker truck, but its a little overdone in my opinion with regards to the drivetrain. The new Chryco 5.7 Hemi would be a much more practical choice with its 345hp & stout 375 lb-ft torque rating, and this is just the intro year for the engine, with more displacement/power to follow. You will probably see a new version of this pickup with a hotter edition of the invincible Hemi in perhaps a 383 cu. in. about a year or two from now, and that will make the Dodge more affordable. Oh yea, Nissan states that their upcoming Titan does'nt have one of those Neanderthal push rod motors; well the V-10 & 5.7 hemi are and they are brutally effective.-MLH (mech. engr.)"

Finally someone has been able to dethrone the SVT Lightning from its position as fastest pickup truck. I personally like the look of the SRT-10, and I agree with the Freightliner look. I mean, come on, it has the power to take out almost any production vehicle out there, so why not look like it has the power to annihilate anything that gets in its way. Well done, Dodge! A definite addition to my wish list!

man, that grille is H-u-g-e! i just hope you don't accidently suck in birds and small animals while scaring the pooch in the back by going at warp speed, otherwise things could get really messy! but in all seriousness, is one of these sorts of vehicles the cheapest way into a sports coupe ever? and one of the most practical/powerful/scary/intimidating/OMG looking trucks i have ever seen. it stands out, thats for sure, and the viper-style wheels really set it off. Dodge has a real winner on it's hands here. This is what they should be focusing their attentions on, stuff like this, and the insipid Neon, rather than dead ends like the Tomahawk. i often wonder why these things ar epopular in pictures, then one rumbles past my house and my question is well and truly answered......

please check once more the specs of for instance the BMW 740D or the Mercedes 400 CDI. With less than half the size of the viper engine they produce almost the same amount of torque. I agree that they may burn less rubber during the start, but I can't see that as a disadvantage.

HELL NO!!! A diesel? NOOOOO!!! 1. Rev slowly 2. Don't have the ponies to aid off the line acceleration. 3. TOO HEAVY!!!! I'd rather have a viper too. But this is conciderably less expensive and you have even haul plywood. =) The Silverado SS is a joke compared to this thing. It's only got 360something horses... That's NOTHING compared to this, or even ::shudders:: the Lightning. The Chevy just doesn't compete, sorry.

If I would have choice between a viper and this one, the result would be obvious. Two seats in a nice package with the same engine would invariably take me to the viper where the V10 would really come alive, rather than selecting an overgrown pizza delivery truck, and if people would be looking for torque they might as well go for a diesel engine.

well i'll tell you one thing both these trucks rock. and yes the dodge does look like a freightliner, but niether the lightning or srt compare with the silverado sst. this truck has the style and speed to beat both trucks. sorry but chevy rocks.

"Oh, ""smaller engine... blah blah blah"" Who cares. Ya know the advantage of a big displacement? A BROAD FLAT TORQUE BAND. Fords little super chagered V-8 wont compete. 5.2 seconds? Lets see it from the Ford. But that Viper V-10 is known for it's seemingly endless rush of torque. What's wrong with the ""Frieght Train"" look? If ya ask me it looks more like a Frieghtliner than a Freight Train. But Anyways, the new F-150's are fugly man. And with the 2 of em at a stop light, I'd put my money on this one any day of the week."

The Ford SVT Lightning has a smaller engine and less ponies, but still turns up a 5.2 0-60 time, oh yea, it looks better too! With the all-new Lightning hitting the showrooms soon, Dodge had better think of something quick? By the way, what's up with the freight train styling? :-(
