Oh My GOD it's not a GTR

Well this (fake) skyline isn't an original at all in my book, please do not let this happen NISSAN! The DATTO guy has got problems, cause the R33 GTR was not a let down or a shopping trolley. That car is a Beauty, along with the R32 & R34 GTR's. This car looks like a copy of the new 350Z or a New Cadillac model coming out, Jeez! I'm from the land if the GTR's, so if this piece sh*t does come out, the GTR legend will be gone 4 ever........

"It is rumored that this car will be rwd, not awd, which is not a true GTR. The r32-r34 Skyline are works of art in every aspect and are being turned into ugly regular old cars so Americans can say ""We have GTR's, too"" Give me a real Skyline, I'll trade you a kidney for it."

Looks dont bother me, the skyline is a drivers car, and not for posing. I just wish they kept the RB26 or at least replaced it with a streight 8 rather than a V shape engine.

The R35 should become another NISSAN icon as all GTR's do.As for the change in engine terrific.Let the RB series donk rest, what else can be done to these in the way of OEM or performance modification, they were born in the late 80's and have been modifided in various tunes and displacments it is a new century show me the muscle. The look of the new R35 is great and should not be compared to R33 as it was the only let down in the skyline line up being heavy, ugly, underpowered and a low power to weight ratio, and should be only used as a shopping trolley. The next greatest advantage in the change of engine line up is the chance to use the VQ35 in a coversion on the legendary P510-1600 DATTO. THANKYOU MR NISSAN ABOUT TIME!

It isn't. I mean it doesn't look as good as the R33s or R34s. In fact it doesn't really look like any of the previous Skylines. But that isn't neccassarily a bad thing. To me it likes kind of like the new Z, but better. As long as it's AWD and can whoop all the ridiculous V8s Commodores with an engine less then half their size I'll be happy. But still, I would prefer if it did have a bit more continuity with the previous models. P.S. I heard it won't be using the RB series engines anymore due to emissions restrictions in Japan. Is this true? And what engien will it use? Still a Stright 6 2.6L TT?

Don't know if you guys know this but there's a revised GTR concept out there. I've only seen pictures of the rear which remains the same(Thank You) but the front has been redesigned. It's `n bit sharper and the headlights are also changed. The V8 is dropped and it wil use a twinturbo V6 with 300+kW. It will be based on the 350Z platform but with all the bells and wistles that go with the GTR. It wil be a homologation-special type machine, rather than the feared luxo-barge tourer it could have become if the Yanks had their way.(Like the 300ZX)

This thing looks shit hot. I liked the look of the R33 and especially the R34 but this is the way to go. This type of Jap car is perfect for a over the top design. For once dont change the concept car and make tha production version more bland. Nissan should show some guts here much like they did with the 350Z.

this is a peice of crap. they keep messin up the skylines. dont do this crap. this thing is ugly. u dotn need to change anything. i would prefer to change it back to the 70 style the 2000gtr rather than go wit this peice of crap. what is the point of doing this?? the skyline is a legendary car. the king of all cars. the king of imports everything. do not do this. just make it the same or just make it how it used to be in the 70 skyline 2000gtr...
 Should be good

From what I've heard it will be a 3.5ltr V6 developed with help from Cosworth with electrically assisted turbos (Prob to cut down on lag)with estimated power around 400bhp (so yes it should be a tad quicker than the R34). Also Lotus is rumoured to be helping on the handling side, which I find strange as the previous GTR's weren't known as anything but the best drivers cars this side of a Le Mans racer.

Seems opinion is certainly devided on this latest offering from Nissan.Like it or hate it this car will sell and it will deliver the goods in the performance arena.I see many comments from people hoping Nissan will retain the RB26DETT engine.Sure this engine is a weapon. It's output is only limited by the amount of money you spend on it but the cost to develope it further in the area of emissions would be prohibitive. The RB engine family is almost 20 years old. With the range of newer engines Nissan currently has it would be foolish to retain it,even though it is an excellent power plant. If the rummors are true and Nissan plans to power the car with a V8,it will most certainly be the VK45DD.A 32 valve quad cam, direct fuel injected V8 engine. This engine would not only meet the emmission standards of any country for years to come but it would provide performace that even the mighty R34 V Spec II couldn't hope to match. I'd say to people just wait and see what this vehical can do before we go off rubishing it to peices before it's even been released.

"I reakon with the help of Top Secret or Jun this thing could look great. When I first seen this about a year ago I was very dubious but it has grown on me. As for some later pics of a ""more mainstream look"" they were bad. It looked like a fat Mitsubishi Carisma. Lets hope we get this concept instead of that. It's a crying shame they're having to get rid of the RB26 cos that is the holiest engine ever made. Damn those conservation greenies for there emission laws!!!!!!!!!!"

dont do this to the living legend!!! PLEASE do not go in retrospect! it will pass u are destroying the very car u created do not go that radical on the design just a couple of mild modifications will do and that guy is right is like going back to the 50's or 70's sumthing like that PLEASE NISSAN DO NOT DESTROY THE SKYLINE WITH THOSE LOOKS!!! it does look like an audi :(

they better keep the ATTESA ETS(awd) and not get rid of the rb26dett...they should just improve the engine and then change the concepts image, such as: -increase displacement to respectable amount like 4 liters + -fix the front in the concept -give us a real 6 speed, not a paddle shifter -make car light as possible but not 3rd gen rx-7 style by decreasing intercooler and radiator size -keep the turbos i don't know what else nissan should do besides increase the rb26dett's displacement and make the r35 like the 350z with 4 wheel drive and the worlds best engine in a larger displacement size as you all can see, im all about larger displacement

First off Nissan are ditching the inline 6 because of european emission regulations which are become stricter every year, the V6 is much more environment friendly. Also how come people are saying the G35 is the sameas the 350Z, they use different platforms. the 350Z is a 2 door coupe, the G35 a 4 door luxury car. And the 350Z is a sports car. I think the GT-R concept looks amazing, although nothing will beat the Godzilla, the R33 is still the best and most feared GT-R of them all. The R33 is by far the most easy GT-R to live with, looked nice and almost looked like a normal familly sports hatchback. (even if it isn't a hatchback), plus a bonus that a 96 R33 GT-R will cost only 16.000($23.000) means that it costs the same as a normal 2.0 litre family saloon. Long live the GT-R. Also in 2006 is the 50th aniversary of the skyline car name in Japan. So expect something special then.

 the best GTR ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is truly the best GTR ever it still has some distinct features that are present in the last few GTR's but nissan finaly decided to design a whole new shape which is great since the last 3 GTR's have all been fairly similar in looks and are becoming a bit boring now. This is the best looking skyline ever, it has nicer curves and features that i haven't seen in GTR's before. Nice work nissan keep it up.

"i think we're about to enter one of those periods in time, like the 70's, where car design goes in the wrong direction. just replace america with japan. seems like every ""concept"" is becoming an audi look-alike, with too many angles and flat surfaces. even though most everyone hates these cars, they continue to believe this is the way to go. bah."

When the R34 came out, people thought it was uglier than the R33. And even the new 350Z, from the pics it didn't look too great, but when I saw in person I was taken away. I guess we really have to wait until Nissan finally starts building these. But, yeah, I don't know why Nissan is moving away from RB26DETT, but it looks like they gonna get a VQ35 and twin turbo it, the basic setup found in the Z32. I am seeing that in all the Japanese auto magazines.

I am a big skyline fan for both style and power(especally the power) but they are doing to much to change the R35 around. The front end looks like something ford came up with. and they should stick with the original Skyline engine. Other than that i like the car.

"The R34 is a good car, sure, but why do you have to defend it? it's moment has passed, and it's so called rivals are long gone into the distance. If Nissan wants a car which can appeal to the performance oriented of this world it needs to be muscular, and ooze sex appeal and seem expensive, and this car does it. The R34 looks like a bland, cruddy imitation and minus the wings, is little more than a plain skyline, save for the straight 6. Thsi car is one which i think Nissan would proudly stick a GTR badge on the back and a Nissan badge on the front. and one which i'm sure most of you would love to own. Hey, it could be worse, they could have gone all Skyline and dumped the rear ""stove burner"" taillamps. so stop ur whining, and thank god that nissan hasn't done a Supra and cancelled this supercar in the making. Launch date is set for 204, it's one date i'll be marking down on my calender, will you?"""

I ain't gonna give a whole lecture on Skyline so i am just gonna say my likes and dislikes. I am glad they kept the quad circle taillights and the giant front grill. I think they should stick with the horizontal headlights instead of the verticle triangles...they kinda give it a skinny look. And for the engine.....Nissan PLEASE go with the VQ.

i agree with you man, people should be open minded! i love the way the tail looks on this thing and i wouldn't mind owning one. but the front just looks od to me, must be something to get used to. i'm not into the sharp angles on a front engined car, but man, if this thing goes into production, and i have the chance to get one, i may very well do it. it's definatly different looking, espicaly up here.

"I'm so sick of reading negative comments of people around here. I know when it comes to tastes everyone has his own, still I think a lot of people here have no flexibility and absolutely no fantasy. Most of you take a look at a new design, like this concept, realize that is something different from what they're used to see and label it as junk right away, very childish behaviour, indeed. So you like the R34, now do you want them to make cars that look the same generation after generation or are you open minded enough to desire something new? I'm looking at these pictures and the styling looks very aggressive to me, I think it can be even better in real, it's clean angular shapes , the way the light designs its shapes, there's something Ferrari in the back (it seems to me that there's also a moveable spoiler on the trunk lid) and the rear window shape is reminiscent of the Vanquish. Take the time to look carefully, the car IS interesting. For those complaining about ""it has no big wing on the back"", or ""maybe after some body work in the front..."", sad people, thank god you're not designers, since your sick idea of design is taking a car and bolting plastic andor composite trims here and there, and of course add some idiotic little neon lights under the car as well, no doubt whatever car you put your hands on you're going to transform it in some ridiculous luna park fleshy freak show, go on and paint it zebra pattern, Ya Rule!!! The real sad thing indeed is they're not selling this. Most probably they're going to make it more conventional, id est, ruining it; too bad, but that's how the world goes."""

this looks like a pretty good car but i don't reckon it should replave the R34, they're getting away from the design everyone loves and changing it into a z lookalike.

This is definately a step backward for the styleist, the R34 was a much better looking car. however much improved internal parts may serve to make up for the exterior shortcomings.

I have been a Nissan fanatic since the late 80's when I bought my first Z. I have owned over ten Z's and 2 roadsters. I always praised Nissan for being original in design and always packing a lot of power in there vehicles. But what are they doing now? Infiniti is loosing its battle in the market place because they all look like over priced Nissan cars. I35-Maxima, G35 coupe-350Z, QX4-Pathfinder. Now they are making their sacred Skyline into a ugly Z. Worse of all a VQ35 motor! Yes it is one of the best V6's ever made but still. The RB26DETT motor needs to be enlarged and stay put in the skyline. Why buy a skyline when you can get the same car just not as ugly, with he same motor? So what if they offer it with Super HICAS, and AWD it will just be heavier then the Z. I see Nissan as just being cheap with their vehicles now. I can just pray they do not ruin their name by expecting people to pay more for an identical car because it carries a different name.

I congratulate nissan on the amazing R35 concept. I hope that this car goes into production. People may say its ugly but its going to be nissans best ever car and its gonna show those european junkies up something chronic. The only let down about this great peice of engineering is the front, but it oozes potential and is going to look awesome with a decent body kit.

hey guy's instead of using comment's like that it would help to look in the future of the car not past because being a blank minded person aint a good thing because its all wrong and plus WERE IN THE YEAR 2002!! everything will be different look at the R33 Skyline back in 1996 the R33 skyline was th eye of japanese Sport's cars and racing cars and it has been the icon of that ever since but in 2000 the R34 look at the difference compare the R33 to the R34 there both the same origin they both are in the same family of Skyline's look in the past at the skyline's you will see how there design's of the skyline's came to this and the design is just perfect to meet the 2000 era of sport's cars car's are gonna change in these yr's there not gonna be the same over and over and over there gonna keep changing and you cannot stop them for changing the design on there Skylines so gotta cool it every company has different style's and design's and ya gotta respect that not critcize there design because there design's are perfect any design so why the critcize all it will do is come back and bother you so think about it
 Here's some research
GTS25t
18-7-2002
"The 350Z, Infiniti G35 and V35 Skyline will share many components as part of Nissan/Renault's attack on global markets. Primarily they will share the VQ35 3.5 litre V6 and be built on the same (Skyline) platform albeit with different chassis fitted. Sharing of components accross different models will allow Nissan/Renault to keep production costs down. If you look at the current model V35 Skyline being sold in Japan now, you will notice the headlights and tailights are almost identical to the Infiniti G35, not to mention the interiors. The styling of the V35 Skyline is a radical departure from previous models as Nissan/Renault plan on making the Skyline a platform to be marketed globally at minimal cost, whereas the previous (R32 to R34) Skylines were intended for the Japanese domestic market only (with the exception of a limited run of 100 R32 GTRs for Australia, and 100 R33 GTRs then R34 GTRs each to the UK). The V35 Skyline loses the traditional round tailights (now to be reserved for the GTR only) and RB series straight six cylinder engines. The V35 Skyline is only available only in 4 door at the moment with the two door version being released at the same time as the Infiniti G35 as they are rebodied versions of the same car, ala VW Golf/Audi A3. The 350Z is strictly a two seater and has more compact dimensions than the sedan based V35 Skyline/Infiniti G35 2+2 coupes. See it for yourself, this is Nissan Japan's official page on the current V35 Skyline: http://www.nissan.co.jp/SKYLINE/V35/0110/DATA/PRESEN/index.html This links to a flash presentation of the V35 Skyline. North America will get the Nissan 350Z badged as a Nissan 350Z, whereas the Infiniti G35 will be the ""American Skyline""."""

This is in reply to the last comment maade, if u happened to do your research, u might find that the Infinity G35 is NOT what the new skyline will look like. It is, in fact, the American production model of the new 350Z. The G35 and the 350Z share more similarities than the G35 and the new Skyline ever will. If your gonna gripe about something, make sure u know a little about it first...someone might notice your mistake and correct you...

"I quote- ""This GT-R Concept, launched at the 2001 Tokyo Motorshow, showcases the design direction for the first GT-R of the 21st century"" - this is written directly underneath the photos. This is not precisely how the new GTR will look. Everyone has been going on how this is the worst looking ""Skyline GTR"". Well as I said earlier, and as is indicated by the name, It's NOT a Skyline, but a Nissan GTR. I find it amazing how everyone seems to comment only primarily on looks and how few technical/historical/reference comments are made. If you want to see the latest Skyline, look at the Infiniti G35 elsewhere on this site which is what the Skyline will be branded in the US. """

The skyline GT-R is a performance icon. It is undoubtedley one of the most powerful sports cars in the world. If this becomes the new R-35, the image of the GT-R will forever be ruined. A sports car is nothing without performance, but looks are extremely important. In other words, this is the ugliest GT-R ive ever seen. Maybe ill buy a Honda...

Good on Nissan for going for broke - (do chest hair wigs come as standard with the open shirt and medallions?), I just want the racing version!!!
 Not a Skyline
GTS25t
4-7-2002
Nissan/Renault have decided the GTR, whilst using some Skyline mechanicals, will be seperated from the Skyline range and will by marketed as simply a Nissan GTR, or perhaps rebodied/rebadged as a Renault Alpine. The Skyline name will stay with the Sedans and Sedan based Coupes. As for the model designation, it may follow the Skyline range with V35(denoting the new V6 engines), it may use the misnomer of R35 or it may have an entirely new model designation. The GTR is leaving the Skyline family in an effort to become a true super car on it's own right. Best of luck Nissan.
