The Siverado SS IS a very nice truck for what you get. A truck with some muscle and Functionality. The SS comes with AWD and the ability to displace 380 Ft./Lb. of torque to all 4's. If Chevrolet was intending on building a Truck that was only ment for racing I'm sure they would have stuck with the 2000 SS concept. (402.8 cu in,479.9 bhp @ 6000 rpm,475.0 ft lbs @ 4800 rpm) I'm Sure with this configuration The SS would definitley Turn more heads Especially the Driver who is now looking behind him at the SVT and SRT he just smoked. However Chevy did not want to Build a Corvette With a pick-up bed. Now If they wanted to I'm sure they could be just like Ford and Throw a supercharger on it and call it an engineered work of art. On a personal note if I wanted a SRT-10 I would by a viper. If I wanted a truck with form and function and some meat under the hood then the SS Silverado is for me.

I like the looks of this truck, saw one up close just recently. The price, ~$40,000, is WAAAY to much though. A Dodge Ram 1500 Quad-cab w/ the Hemi is only a tad bit slower and at least about $10,000-$15,000 cheaper. With the difference you could bolt on a Kenne-Bell Supercharger (soon to be realeased) and have a real hauler... I think that GM missed the boat onthe SS, its more of a cruiser. Nice truck overall though...
 ??? what's this???

"SS is meant to be ""super sporty,"" well this is far from that. Just leave the truck thwe way it was... Who wants to attempt to compete with the Dodge Ram SRT-10 anyways? The Ram is unbeatable with its 500 hp and Viper V-10. 0-60mph in about 6 and a half seconds isn't bad for a big truck like this...but still, it seems like a ripoff. If you want to make it sporty, just give it the 550 hp it needs Chevy."

How can checvy even think they can compare to the dodge srt-10 or the ford svt lightning, whoever that idiot was that posted the first comment on herre is an idiot, this is not an all around great truck and the srt-10 and the svt lightning can do a lot more than beat this junker off the line. Anyone who cuts down on the srt or the svt is jus jealous that chevy cant make sumthin as fast, or powerful. When it comes to fast trucks, dodge and ford definetly are winning...
Good from far, but Far from great

I own a 1500 (5.3L) right now, and ive slapped on a whipple, with alot of other ammenities, now thats a Chevy. The 1500 SS lacks orginal form, and Im not a fan of the new front end either. Thats why customizers are putting the caddy front clip on it anyways, great idea by the way. As far as keepin' it practical, I can understand that. Thats why we call it a truck and not a rice rocket. But for that price more should be expected under the hood, and on the inside.

I think the Silverado SS is an all around great truck. Sure, the Lightning and the SRT-10 can beat it off the line. But thats all they can do. See what happens when you hit bad road conditions or if you have to haul a heavy load. You also won't lose control of the SS when you punch the accelerator as many people would in the Lightning or SRT-10. Chevy did a great job making a truck that could do it all.
 is there a market?

Do any of you guys think that loyal Chevy fans would be willing to pay an extra 6 to 8 thousand dollars for a Silverado that can produce 480 to 500 horsepower? Thats a $49,000 vehicle we are talking about. Even though it would smoke the Lightning and run with the srt 10.
Its not supposed to be a Ford killer, or at least in the qua

"I work at Chevy dealer, I do so because I want to sell what I love. The SS is not supposed to Kill the Ford or the Dodge, it's not an SS for speed, or at least not only for speed. Take a look at the differances; You take the Ford...try to use it like a pickup, tow something with it, or even look at a beach...what do you think would happen? Chevy wanted to make a truck that had a sporty outlook without destroying the purpose of a truck. You want to run 10's on the quarter mile? Save yourself some money and sup up a camaro, you want something a little differant in a truck, buy the SS. Here is my point, the Ford is quick, I have driven one...I think its one Hell of a vehicle, but, you call it a truck only because it looks like one, it has no function as one. Dodge, on the other hand, is doing alright. They have the Hemi that seems to be pulling it's own, but at least you can use it like a truck. Even with that, if you have ever driven one of the Silverado's with the 6.0 L or the 8.1 you know that its not exactly on the slow side."

I am buying one for sure, strap a blower and it's on with anybody, hey you can't substitute cubic inches,so go for those little ones, where i come from it's go big or go home! And more than that scratch the blower and change the pistons and cam it right, then a little tune and they can all step a side, chevys included! You can get 500hp easy with that engine.

It is a nice truck, but it just can't compete with the Lightning or the SRT-10 Dodge Ram. Chevy better have something up its sleeve because Ford plans to release a Lightning with over 500hp when the next F-series platform comes out next year.

"For at least 20 grand less, I've ordered a Ram 1500 Hemi. I don't need awd or an extended cab (sporty?). DC's 5.7 hemi is the best new value on the market if looking for an affordable ""performance"" truck. Add about $ 1000 worth of Hotchkis components and it'll drive/perform better than most ('cept in the snow!)."""

Stop whining ALL just buy one be a loyal bow-tie man to your heart that you are. Add NOS to kick in at open throttle if you need to spank a ford every now and then track or street. And be proud to have the first ext-cab AWD truck with Quadrasteer most likely on the way.....

I think that some-one that claims to be a Chev. fan and then switch to Ford hase not done his homework, the Silverado may be a little down on power from the Ford but where are you every going to use all that power anyway. The silverado will ride and handle a lot better. I have a SSR on order but I think I will see the Silverado about a year or better before the SSR so it will a great comparison between the two as the SSR has a lot less power but will be very unique.

I have always been a Chevy fan, but lately I think Chevy is behind the 8 ball. That new avalanche, now come on, who would want that ugly contraption? Although I do see them on the road. I think the SS looks good except the front end. I still haven't gotten used to that new look. I don't like seeing the hood lines from the side. I already switched from Chevy to the Harley Davidson F150 and I love it. When Chevy builds a comparible truck, I will switch back.
 Nice Job

I think Chevy has done a really good job developing this truck. The HP on this is great. As some people have stated that this truck should have had a supercharger added on there is ridiculous. That would just put the starting price even higher than it is now. I own a 96 s10 with less then 150 HP, and I think 345 HP is great. I wouldn't care if it can compete with a Ford or a Dodge because I know Chevy is better.
 Great Truck!

Some of you say it is underpowered but not for the average person who just wants a sweet truck! Also who wants a 2wd truck in the midwest, when winter comes around, they are almost useless! Chevy has to make it a marketable truck so everyone will want to buy it! For you high performance people all you have to do is slap a super charger on it and it will spank both dodge and ford because of its sweet awd setup.

This may not be as fast as say, the Lightening, but ask anyone who's driven both vehicles which they'd rather drive round country lanes. It's the Chevy EVERY time. The Lightening is big and heavy, with soggy suspension, which is understandable from a 2 tonne vehicle. But this, although heavier and less powerful, seems more agile. It squats into the road as you depress your foot, and the AWD system gives it a distinct safety advantage over the Lightening, which is only too happy to spin under power at low speeds. It also makes a far better noise, and for me, that's half of what an SS is about. Cruising round town, looking cool, scaring the locals to death with the shere size and noise. But I do agree, Chevrolet need to SERIOUSLY consider writing a letter to Callaway for a 500bhp version of this delightfully tuneable V8 power unit. MORE POWER PLEASE!!! Comfy seats though

"Reviews have already been done in magazines stating that the Silverado SS will be behind the Lightning and Dodge on the drag strip. This is a bad thing to say about a truck that claims to be an SS and hasn't even been released yet. I am a loyal Chevy driver, but Chevy needs to rethink the whole SS thing; a supercharged model would definitely be a step in the right direction. """

I am a die hard chevy fan but come on what is the deal you call this a SS. Come on 345 hp that is available in a Caddy, how are you going to try and up your sales if you cant even come close to competeing with the lighting or the new dodge SRT10 truck. Chevy needs to start reading truckin magazines and watch and see what these people are doing with 5.3s or 6.0 with just supercharger tune the computer a little but come on how do you think this thing is really gonna run a full size extended cab with all wheel drive this thing has to way well over 5 thousand pounds. I thought if they came out with a SS they would at least put up a fight with ford and dodge for the baddest truck but they laid down and let them win.
 Well done Chevrolet
