I see a good deal of less than positive comments about the viper RT/10 - who don't own one. I guess it is easy to take shots at it, but it is a great car. I am a collector and have a number of performance cars dating back to 1968. They include a 1968 427 TRI-Power Corvette, a 1969 428 MACH I Mustang, a 1969 440 SixPac Superbee, and a 1970 426 Hemi Charger, not to mention my newer 2006 Z06 Corvette, 2007 Dodge SRT-8 Superbee.
The Viper takes some getting use to related to taking corners the correct way and getting the most out of the V10. But, for sure it is the fastest car (minus the Z06)I own - and gets the most attention from on lookers. I guess that those who can't afford one must make up some reason why it is not a great car!!!

Do you actually own or have you even ever driven a Viper? I cannot accurately comment on the Gen I cars ('92-95) but I can say for a fact that my '97 GTS is a fantastic car. It handles very well (even better than my '01 S2000, yes it's true) and has GOBS of power from 750rpm to 6000rpm. A truck engine it is not, it shares the internal measurements sure but it is a completely different animal. For anyone who disagrees with my remarks I'll be happy to take you for a spin if you're ever in Southern Arizona. ;)

"i wonder how many of these people commenting here have actually driven one of these tanks. I have and i can say that ""yes"" they have lots of power and it feels very nice to go in a straight line quickly, but there are corners on this earth and one must slow this poorly balanced tub of slop down to actually corner it...etc. definately not one of the nicest cars ive ever driven, but definately one of the most raw. its just a pitt that the raw feeling isnt a good one. and having lots of cc's doesnt make a car good for that matter. here in australia, in this years performance car of the year comp, the CSV mondo had the second largest power output but came last (even behind a 2.5 ton bently) for mush the same reasons that this car doesnt really cut the meat to be called a supercar. sportscar definately, not super yet."

Well...I'm not sure what to make of the Viper. Sure its fast. And sure it has power. And sure it looks passable. BUT THAT'S IT. They do not make good race cars. How this got a seven and the Holden Monaro gets a 1.9 I will never know. For all you yanks out there, the best drivers in the world aren't NASCAR racers. Any type of competition motorsport demands skill, and Nascar certainly demands its share of skill. But Nascar is primitive compared to some of the other championships out there, for instance, the AVESCO V8 Supercars in Australia, where the cars go (brace your self) around left AND RIGHT hand corners on the same track. The signature of a truly class car in this part of the world is how it fares at the Bathurst Endurance race, a 24 hour race around the Bathurst Mt Panorama Circuit. The Monaro took it out. No one bothered with bringing a Viper because they are simply rubbish when it comes to a demanding track. There are simply much much better cars to go racing with than a Viper. A real supercar should ideally do more than just go in a straight line. Try a Ferrari ENZO, or a Subaru 22B, and then maybe you'll understand what makes a supercar.

the '92 viper is very rare in dubai. i've seen it very seldomly.i like its design & its low height which makes the driver feel like sitting on the road.people who have driven a viper say that itdrives really well.it can take on a corvette any day.while i was on vacation in pakistan i saw a red viper outside a mall.i dragged my uncle to show him & he really liked it.its good that dodge didnt discontinue the viper.with the new viper SRT10 on the road the viper legend will continue to move forward.

the comments below me come from yet another person on this site who enjoys comparing worthless numbers and facts about cars they will never own or drive. granted, i will only own a supercar if i can buy one used, which is unlikely, but let me say something to the person whose comments are below mine. your foolish comparisons of top speed mean nothing. the bugatti and the ferrari are different cars, and while motorhead may be foolish, you are truly clueless. it is an engineering feat to jam a sixteen cylinder engine into a luxury supercar and add quad turbos in a reliable, efficient manner. there is nothing wrong with turbos, in fact they harness energy unused by naturally aspirated engines. it takes skill to mount reliable turbos on engines, and most importantly, it boosts torque bands and power ranges, just look at the audi s4. personally, i feel that torque is often lacking in naturally aspirated highly tuned engines. all these traits make me take my hat off to bugatti, and yet the ferrari enzo is just as impressive. top speed, you fool, has to do with gearing that the manufacturers install, just look at the less-powerful mclaren f1. the enzo is the best drivers car there is, the bugatti is one of the bust luxury supercars, and personally, i would rather have the viper above. americans' feat of engineering is their power to price ratios and high displacement engines. i hope you have learned to compare cars now. o-name

seriously, you call the Bugatti Veyron Elegant, and you trash ferrari like that, the Veyron is one of the ugliest cars ive ever seen. It took 4 turbochargers and 16 cylinders to make it go 252 mph while the Enzo uses a Naturally Aspirated V-12 and goes 220 mph. Even greater, a Koenigsegg CC8S has a Supercharged V-8 and only goes 10 mph slower. The Veyron is a sad, sad piece of machinery. The 1992 Viper RT/10 I believe could be compared with a lot of cars with bigger engines of its time and I dont think people should say a viper isnt a supercar because it doesnt have a V-12, because they should realize, they'll probably never own one.
the viper, a muscle, super car hybrid?

"Hi, as you guys obviously have more experience with the viper im open to critisism of wat i say. I just feel that dodge have created a hybrid of a super car and muscle car with the viper. It has the finesse, speed and curves of a super car, but has the brute force and agressive front end of a muscle car, the new version especially. The charger was THE muscle car. It is a superb muscle car. The viper doesnt have the muscle of it, i feel. It doesnt have the grunt or the pure agressiveness of the charger or of any ""true"" muscle car, though it does try very hard to do so. A muscle car- in part but also a super car..... does ne1 else think this or find any different?"

"Motorhead, the Viper is in fact a refreshing change from the usual norm of todays cars to be over-acronymed and over engineered. The viper is delibrately engineered so it can put the driver in control of the car, not some ""Intelligent"" computer that leaves you with no feeling for the road, and hence no feeling of control. and anyway, it's not like you'll ever drive one. 1 due to lack of funds, and 2 due to lack of skill. I could say more, but i'll leave it to BlackSunshine."""

Not only have I seen a viper when it looses control, I've been inside it when it happens. IT'S DAMN FUN!!! Like I said dude, your missing the point of the car. It's about OLD SCHOOL. And starting in 2001 Vipers do come with ABS. And just so ya know, the new vipers have a much nicer dash, and if you ask me, the Vette's have never had a nice entirior. Personally, I've always though them to be ugly, to say the least.
 dodge should not.............
motorhead
2-1-2003
carry on like this. They should make their cars safer and yes i know the fun and all in driving cars without traction and abs but should dodge make traction control an option instead of not offering it at all. Nowdays car companies are really emphasizing on safety and have you ever seen a viper go out of control. It is real scary. I respect what dodge has done to their cars and they still make the finest cars in america but to me they do not seem to care about safety. Basically viper buyers are all skilled drivers and they know how to handle their car but if a first timer is trying a viper what is going to happen. The vettes nowdays(Z06, ZR1)all have traction and abs but you can switch them off and the fn still stayes there and the interior is a real difference. The vette is so much better then the dodge and for a US$84,000 car they should really brush up on that interior. The dodge viper is good but the real american muscle and the best all rounder is deffinately the vette!!!

"your a fool, no one on this site takes anything you have to say seriously. Elegance is not in materials, it's in the looks and the spirit. A stock vette wont out run a stock viper, it just wont, it's a sports car, not a super car; so shut up untill you actually know what your talking about. Traction control is for the ball-less and unskilled. All wheel drive weighs too much, and just doesn't have the right feel man. If you can't see the beauty and fun in pure, unbridled, raw performance, then you have absolutely no buisness commenting on these cars."""
you cant compare a XJR15 to a viper!
Supercharged
1-1-2003
the xjr15 is a race car! and the RT10 is a road car!!..ofcourse its gonna have better performance statics, its really unfair to compare the two!! (Unless u compare it to the LeMan vipers that race in the same class as XJR 15 used to race in), The XJR15 is no longer in production, and its not like u could buy a 2nd hand one even if u had the money,i doubt tom walkinshaw would sell one!,the only place u could view a XJR 15 is in a museum. Its like comparing apples to oranges...motorhead u have yet to make an intelligent comment, but i find your ignorance amusing! lol i suppose next your gonna compare a hummer to a mini!! If your gonna compare the rt10 to a jag at least compare it to on currently in production like the XKR, not some dead dinosaur like the XJ220 or XJR15
 XJR15!!!!!

That will blow the viper away anytime. It is damn good and very fast car and will trash an rt/10 anytime despite its age. Now talking about elegence in supercars. You crazy or something. when were supercars elegent. The only supercar that i know which is elegent is the bugatti veyron. Ferrari?????? Elegent????? Never. Italian cars have one of the worst interiors ever(except alfa romeo) Everything is either steel, alluminium or carbon fibre in a ferrari. Only the stupid seats are leather. lorry. Where the hell are you from, mars. What calss is this car in since blacksunshine is braging so much about this car. If a corvette can beat it what so great about this car. The corvette is a much better car compared to the viper. Talking about the sensation of burning rubber makes me sick. No traction control!!! What and who is dodge trying to prove. At least chevolet does not endanger peoples lives by adding traction control to their corvettes. The smell of burning rubber will damage your brain and it is very stupid to do such a thing. The other thing is the price. If you have $100,000 you can either get this and have no more money to modify it but you can get a vette and send it to lingenfelter and they will do the rest for you. I know what class this car is in, the class of how to waste your money.
 jag?

"How the hell does a jag blow this away? and don't mention the XJ220 what that was 650,000 when new, and after a year or so they were still trying to get rid of them at 1/3 that. It lost money hardcore. Yes Ferrari's, Buggati's, & Aston's all have more elagance than the Viper, but for how much more? With the exception of maybe the TVR's where are you going to get this kind of performance for the price? Besides man, elagance is subjective. Like I said, this is supercar via old school; it's a differant breed. Ferrari's, Aston's, Bugatti's, are all super cars. They offer gross amounts of performance and thrills, all with head turning thrills; each going by a differant code. Ferrari: Race cars to the road, with sleek looks and compelling lines. Aston: unparralleled combination of prestige, elegance, and fine materials, with the feal of the aristocrats super car, the kind of car you drive to your fox hunt. Bugatti: well.... your guess is as good as mine, the recent ones have only really shared the idea of obscene performance. The Viper strives to be a super car in it's own way: Old school feal, old school prencipals; BIG engine, head turning looks, and the look and feal of raw power. And the viper achieves all of these. Is it a super car? HELL YES!!! just a differant breed."""
I agree with Black Sunshine on this one...

eD UK, you are so completely missing the point it ain't funny. IF THIS CAR WERE ABOUT FINESSE CHRYSLER DODGE WOULD HAVE SCREWED IT UP! Cars such as the Vipe are about brute strengh, the force of hundreds of ponies trying to shred the rear tyres and spin you out of control. I can see you probabvly don't understand about these things living in europe, where supercars are sleek, sporty, fast, roroty and downright beautiful. this car is also beautiful, but in a different sense of the word. Not a mess, just different.

Ok the Charger is a muscle car not a supercar but then so is this as it lacks one vital ingredient to make it a supercar, it has the power and the price tag but not the elegance which has always been so dominate in supercars, Bugattis have always been elegant so have Aston Martins and Ferraris. This along with all Dodges is not elegant and its overated. In the Uk it's competition blows it away (Jags, TVRs and Nobles) it's an awful car, but then I can see where your coming from. It's a mess

"do you get used to the smell of crap when you always have your head up your butt? This car is a work of art. A lori? I think that's European for a comercial truck right? Like a big rig? Well, if you think this car is big, you've never seen a lamborghini. Do you realize how wide and long those cars are? Obviously not. By the way. I'm a mopar fanatic. I LOVE CHRYSLER PRODUCTS. And as an American, a HUGE car lover, and some one with common knowledge of performance cars, I can say this with all certainty that THIS IS a supercar. Ecspecially in debuted. It's super car by way of American Muscle. The Charger was not a supercar. The Charger was a MUSCLE CAR; any one with half a brain and any automotive knowledge knows that. So you either know nothing about cars, or the labotomy didn't go well."""

No No No this car isn't great, its an ugly hulk of a mess! Its just a lorry in a smaller frame. Dodge have really lets us down with this offering, the Charger was a supercar, this, a mess.

has there ever been a car more beautiful, fast, sexy, and not as expensive some other compeditors. i'm sorry i forgot that this car has no compeditors. this is a road beast. when you press the accelerator, it melts the asphalt your driving on. and dissapears like star trek ship, with the speed of light.
