I have never owned anything other than a Chevrolet, but this vehicle gave me pause to reconsider. I have always been fond of the older Mustangs, and if Ford has the vision to put this car into production, I would hope that like the classic Mustang, this car will be affordable.
 This car is awsome!!!!

This is the best looking Mustang I have ever seen. The new retro look is awsome. I love this car!!!!! If i was old nough to drive i would get this car in second, but i can't since im only 14. And this cars specs are awsome. 400 hp!!!! Thats nuts, especially in a Mustang which arent really known for there power. Now before any goes crazy on me, I just want to say that the Mustang is one of my favorite cars of all time. I cant wait for this car to come out!

im sorry..but where do you get the 300zx out of a new ford mustang. they are obviously two totally different cars in two different time periods. i dont see the connection. i agree with the last guy who disagreed with you, what do you have against mustangs/fords, you say they are weak(although i beg to differ) so ford comes out with a hot new body and a 400 horsepower kick in the ass..and what do u have beef with 400 horsepower. you have to be nuts to say yes. please stick with the car you are commenting on, this is not the old model. i think this is an awesome concept, i love mustangs and i think this is a great way to recreate an already sweet car. i hope the quality seen in the concept will translate well into the production model, and i hope it gets the promised 400 ponies.

I'm probably one of the biggest Chevy enthusiasts you'll ever meet but when I saw this bad boy.... MY GOD! It's just simply amazing. Not like the remake of the thunderbird and all their other retro models. This car is a perfect retro modded replica of the 67 shelby. This will DEFINATLY be a collecter car. I must say to the guys at Ford.. You've really outdone yourselves with this one!

I dont know how you can cut down on ford so much in one paragraph. I dont know how you can call the gt or the cobras weak, i jus dont know what to say to someone like you, except for to quit cuttin down on such an awesome set of cars....

J. Mays said it himself...the Cobra version of the new mustang will not come out until 2006, but will surely be worth the wait because it will definitely have a 5.4 liter V8 that will reach 500 horsepower.

I think that this just an awesome car, and I love it. I would do anything to be driving it right now. Great job you made a winner.

This is a revolution to the Ford Motor Company! The concept Mustang, in the easiest terms, blows away the existing design!! However, the tail lights could use a little change. The current rear lights on the Mustang now would look fantastic on the concept coup and send it to the awesome level the 1964 Stag saw. Great Car

very retro but definitely better looking than the current Mustang. Nothing wrong with sticking to what works style wise.

I'm mainly a Chev man myself but this is one sweet car that would make me turn to Ford in a second, the only drawback is the all glass roof which could get expensive if broken or cracked.

im all about this mustang. as a matter of fact, i plan on getting one of the first people on my block to get one of these babies. as far as design goes, this is probrably the 2nd or 3rd best looking mustangs ive ever laid eyes on, surpassed only by one or two '69 models (yes, one definatly being the shelby). but before ford puts this into production, i hope they blend the lines a little better. the hood for instance -- it looks like used oragami paper. and maybe towards the rear they can borrow from the Aston Martin AMV8's widebody wheel well trim (since ford owns AM).

"a BMW is cool but this is...WOW!!!!the best looking mustang ever!!and if they really give it those 400 ""ponys"",and they don't mess with the exterior,it's gonna be my next car(and if they keep their promise bout that low price) a true living legend"

first of all why would ford copy of of some feriegn peice like a 300ZX. Second ford made cars that have looked like this before in the 60's just a little more baer then the concept gt,i think you need to get your facts straight. Ford is just bringing back the beasty mustang looks it once had. This mustang is one of fords best ideas i mean look you got power and beauty.

I am extremely glad the mustang is gettin the look back of the sleek fastback..being an avid lover of stangs i own 4 and i would love to have this one in my stable to..not to mention being a 2 seater and a 6 speed havin the looks of the 69, and the drive train of today make this a must have for any ponie lover...my only concern is ..are 6000 of them gonna be enough to go around for all the ponie lovers

First off, I would like to say, flawless 51, please refrain from commenting on cars you know completely nothing about, save yoursef the embarassment. All-wheel drive? Sure, why not betray the essence of what a mustang is, why not even go as far as to put in a rear mounted 4 banger, with room for eight. This concept embodies what the mustang should be, we true car fanatics can only hope that it will be just as great in its production form.

i read somewhere that the engine for a more suped up model should be like the ford v8s that are on the market now. my guess is something like the lincoln aviator...302 hp. just a theory.

some idiot on this page has tried to have a go at ford and this car. By taking my first look at this car i was hit with a large dose of exitment and pride that the company I support strongly has produced a concept veichle with such class and style. it resembles the old look of the mustang and combines it with modern beasty look. 400hp is dam good for a 4.6L with todays air intake technology there is no need to burn stupid amounts of fuel and adding unnecessary weight for no reason. P.S. I Just cant seem to see the 300ZX in this car. No TURBO SIX, NO SLOPING HEAD LIGHTS. Just because both bodies are straight. The strange thing is the old mustangs body also has a very straight look. It might make some people(the ones with at least half a brain) think that the concept mustang got this look from the old one NOT THE NISSAN 300ZX.

I'm not usually a fan of American cars, but this one looks damn nice!!!! An all wheel drive option would be REALLY interesting.

im an aussie and arent really that fond of yank tanks but every time i look at this beast it becomes more and more attractive. at first i thought it was gastly but i think with a couple of more views of the stang it will be more like classy.

9-2-2003
"The New Ford crate motor ""The Cammer"" is a MOD 4.6 DOHC bored to a 5.0 @ 11:1 that puts out 425HP. SVT Cobra got the MOD 4.6 to put out 390HP with a blower. All I'm saying, with all the ""THEME"" cars Proposed and on our wish lists, Ford/SVT could find 428+HP and call that Horse/Snake a ""428 Cobra Jet"" Sorry for the confusion. Never say Never! And yes, they would have to lower the compression."
 Wicked Car

5-2-2003
I've long been a chevy fan but retro-styling is in. This Mustang is wicked. The 67-68 fastback is by far the best mustang to ever come out of the factory and this one tops even that. This car will not be drastically less arrow-dynamic than the current mustang. Definetly not enough to really affect fuel economy. Hopefully the hp will be upped to 325 or so. Think realistic, there is no way they will make one with 450+ hp. Keep dreaming. I've got an idea on the roof though. Maybe add a targa top or something, but I love the glass roof. They could up the price by $5k and would have waiting lists to receive this car. The best advice to Ford is to not change this car at all, just produce it. If it is more expensive, we will pay. (within reason, maybe put a ceiling of $30K on it)
 New Mustang...

Personally, I have always viewed the current Mustang as a missed opportunity for Ford. Strong sales allowed them to carry on a platform design that was already low-tech at the time of it's inception, 1979. Mustang should represent all that Ford North America is capable of. Finally they have drug their feet into the 21st century, and they will introduce a brand-new Mustang... with a live rear axle on standard models. What? IRS was muddled around by Ford for the ORIGINAL Mustang... Otherwise, to me the car is very strong. The aerodynamic areas that concern me are not the headlamps as mentioned earlier (they already have flush covers) but, rather the very high brow of the front fascia and grille. Attractive but definately form over function. The taillamps are reinterpretations of the giant monochromatic devices cranked out by American manufacturers throughout the 70's and 80's, and they seem low-rent to me. Other than that, I congratulate the designers on a car with good proportions and nice detailing... so long as they can get the interior quality and materials right, this will be the first Mustang I wouldn't mind being seen in in a long time.

I personally think that those who looked at this work of Mustang art, sent NEGATIVE comments and call themselves Mustang enthusiasts, should DEFINATELY find the nearest Psychiatrist and have their heads examined. This is by FAR the most creative innovation, combining nostalgia and 21st century engineering, that Ford has done for one of the longest living muscle cars, SINCE the 1987 Mustang GT hit the showroom floor. Furthermore I am a MULTIPLE Mustang GT owner(88, 90, 94 Conv., 98), and if THIS particular style EVER hits the showroom, I'll be on my way to my neighborhood Ford dealer to purchase my 5th!! LONG LIVE THE 'STANG!!!

22-1-2003
hey 93cobra, if they put a big block blown 428 Cobra jet in this thing it wont make 428 hp. It would be like 550 or 600 hp. That would be badass, but it will never happen. All the environmental jerks would throw stones in ur window if u drove one. That would not get great gas mileage. How about a modular 5.0? That would be kinda tight. I do wanna see a blown big block in the new mustang but it wont happen. Oh well, that why we have the aftermarket.

This car is really something else, combining between the Old Elanor GT 500 & The new one is such a briliant idea, I sure hope that FORD would not change the specs of this car in the commercial production... Thunderbird is beautiful but this mustang is A Work Of Art!

This is the best looking Mustang to come along in decades. I went to see a current Mustang the other day just to freshen my memory, and man they are FUGLY, especialy when compaired to this. If your woried about the drag caused by the Headlight pockets I'm sure there will be after market covers that will preserve the look but reduce the drag. The only changes I want to see are back seats, I've got kids, and get rid of the glass roof. looks cool, but too hot in the summer.

it looks absolutely fantastic. I really adore this car to a certain extend. It looks like the most perfect mustang. It has that calssic look outside but the modern retro look on the inside and i think that is very smart of ford to do such a thing. LIkw what they always say, i would welcome a Pontiac GTO and Chevolet Corvette so we could smash it and i think they have done just that!!! WONDERFUL!!!

God, are you all complete airheads? it's called retro design, as in the Thunderbird, the GT40. the Fourty-nine concept. Stuff that has a certain old-school appeal, much like rustic furniture. now i am all for a front re-do on this car, the headlights are a bit much, but the rest is classic mustang, and the sort of mustang that people remember most fondly, in another 20 years, maybe someone will design the Fuel Cell version of the 88-92 mustang, until then, the classic mustang is the best we've got, just enjoy it.

I really like this design. A few little things could be done to make the front a little more agressive though. It looks a bit too bulky, however, the retro styling meeting the new age artistry is what i love about this car. hopefully, they'll work out the rough edges on the car and produce one hell of a new mustang, once i see the actual production model, I want in on the to buy list. And i read elsewhere in someones comments how they'd like to see some other models, ie: cobra, boss, etc... Once the Saleen Team gets a hold of it then i really want in! Do a good Job Ford, you're almost there!

This fantisized peace of junk will never make it to production. I'm still wondering why they even spent the time coming up with such a prototype. They supposedly put all this time and effort into creating a nice car, but all they did was pretty much take a 300ZX and tricked it out and made it look a little more space age. Ford should just go ahead and either send the money they spent on this my way or rather yet just flush it down the toilet. I mean, come on, the only reason mustang did so well these last few years is because they dropped their prices as well as their HP. They're playing off their old muscle car symbolism, not creating a new strong name for this generation. All I see nowadays is really OLD people driving the weak GT's and even a cobra once in awhile. What's this world coming to. Let's all face it, Mustang might have a chance at survival, if only they weren't a FORD!!!!
 Bold and Getting Old
SPUD
15-1-2003
I like it only because I like change. My wife hates it. And Ford will probably sell alot more of these than they did the 87 - 92 models. I'm not old. My generation is not old. I'm 25 and I can say that I wish the engineering design team would focus on better aerodynamics like a sleeker front with less wind resistence. Old is cool but smart engineering is cooler. Engineering doesn't mean going in circles. When you lose gas mileage in future designs you lose practicality. As for the rear of the car - what the heck is Ford thinking? Disco is dead. Since Ford is beefing up the power - why not 500 horses? I say the heck with crawling into the 21st century, why doesn't Mustang compete with Viper, Corvette, Supra or NSX yet?
 jaguar meets viper
suchyman
14-1-2003
this one has the best of a jaguar (elegance) and a viper (brutality) but is much more modern than the both of them. It looks straighter and I think design is going back to tougher lines. Mercedes SLR looks good but like a big sinew and to overstyled - this one looks like a tank and butterfly in one. I like it best from the side, then front, back is not bad bad the weakest view of it. They should make it stronger. And the top-engine-model should power 500 PS - to compete with all the others mercedes and folks. But sorry, it has no porsche prestige.
 Doubts about the side
Outlaw
14-1-2003
"The side view leaves me with a few doubts indeed. It looks too heavy, put something on the screen to mask the lower portion of the body and it looks better ...or maybe it's another car whose pictures don't do justice to it, too bad then I won't have a chance to see it for real. I think it's a good thing Ford recovered some styling cues from the old mustangs, since I never fell for the models from the '80s and '90s, but I wonder if retro fashion is everything they can come up with; think about the GT40 (a great car indeed), the forty-nine concept and the new thunderbird, while their brand new ideas are generally a bit plain ...but, of course, this is just my opinion."""

What a concept. Ford is going to sell a lot of these stangs. To give up my 93 Cobra I would like to see the new mustang Coupe just like the proto in two trims. 1. Boss 302 - 350 + hp [it will have to beat the new GTO] - 6 speed - IRS - Shaker Hood. 2. SVT - Blown 428 Cobra Jet - 428 + hp- 6 speed - IRS - shaker hood, Rear ? Glass. Some body styles take awhile to get use to. This car is proto is Bitch'n

This is the Mustang I have been waiting for. Older look with new technology. Has lines borrowed from the 64.5 - 68, which I think are the best looking of all the mustangs, and interior and mechanicals that are thuroughly modern. If Ford can make these affordable they will sell like hot cakes.

I hope this finally pisses off GM to hurry up with their new Camaro and the second gen. GTO and that Firebird. Because this is the best Mustang ever!!! It's a perfect design showing some of the legendary past flowing into an optimistic future. Don't change a thing, just build it!!!!!!!!!
