"It is apparent that Ford's involement with Aston Martin is paying off. Not only has Ford reminded Aston how to build quality cars (no offense), but Ford's capital infusion has allowed Aston to build a 21st century manufacturing facility in an unceasingly anachronistic area of the world (no offense). It apparently took much more than diminishing market share and unbearably unreliable product for this British company to reform itself and start making world class cars (no offense)."

Let me highlight a few well-known facts about the motor industry that have obviously escaped you. One, nationality has nothing to do with a specific marque today , especially if we are talking about a massive business like VAG or Ford, because they control several companies spanning different continents. Their history means nothing and if one was to attempt to follow it back you would be an idiot. For example, the new Bentley Continental GT: Cosworth-designed engine. In the case of many American and (and Japanese companies to a lesser extent), the focus has been on mass production at the expense of performance and even reliability (which is ironic considering your post). As a result, America has had very few performance vehicles that can compete with European marques because there is little demand. Who have they called upon when they want to compete: Europeans, specifically British or Italian specialists (the Germans being particularly introvert). The GT40 was designed by Lola; the Corvette ZR1, Lotus. In Japan's case, who did they call upon when they wanted to have a chance in the WRC? Prodrive and Cosworth. So please, do not discredit the ability of the British automotive industry.

This is besides the point though. Your issue was with the reliability of AM and this is what I will address. My argument is quite simple, Aston suffered while a member of the PAG. The cars, believe it or not, had a reputation for reliability before the 90s, as witnessed in the 1959 World Sportscar Championship (not that British companies were vain enough to enter all that often). While under Ford, AM received less attention and were forced to follow the Ford way of making exotic cars. He pioneered mass-production for a reason, to supply you and your cheap, image-obsessed market. And what was the biggest indicator of this calamity: cheap Ford equipment and trim forced into a classic car and a less competitive international market outlook. When the V8 Vantage was released in 1977 it was the fastest production car in the world, and one of the best performing. The same could be said of the DBS V8 seven years earlier. You can't say the same about the Vanquish or the DB7. Yes Aston Martins retained their good looks, but you can thank the fact that they were still based in Warwickshire. Unfortunately, even though AM has been free of Ford for a few months, her recent cars still suffer from the problem that was characteristic of them during the 90s, if only slightly; Ford did manage to reform her own outlook on the classic names under her own, equally-distinguished logo. The result is that before another special British name beneath this logo, Jaguar, was sucked down the maelstrom of mediocrity, trying to save cars like the X-Type and S-Type, designed chiefly for American doctors, it has produced what is hopefully a more competitive entry into the sports car and sport-saloon fields, the new XK and XF. Let me just remind you American how much of the design and development work for these cars took place in Britain... quite a lot.

when i first saw its pictures i assumed that it would be a small coupe with aggressive looks. i saw the DB9 for the first time at a motorshow next to a vanquish. the DB9 is a medium sized car with decent good looks & at the same time it resembles its bigger brother , the Vanquish. both the martin siblings are as similar & different as the lambo's murcie & gallardo & have similar prices respectively. the DB9 costs 650,000 dhs which is around the price of the bentley GT, gallardo & modena whereas the vanquish costs around 950,000 dhs. the stand manager gave me each car for free. I'm quite happy with that even though theyre just postcards.

I'll clean this up. The DB9 is supposed to replace the DB7 which i dont think they will be producing anymore. The cost of it is around 100,000. So it is considerably less than the Vanquish, so the Vanquish is supposed to remain as Aston Martin's 'best car'. Also i have to say they have made the car very beautiful. But there is one thing, they have concentrated heavily on the US market hence the large size of the DB9 over the DB7 and things like when the door is opened, the car makes an irritating beeping sound. Probably to remind Americans theyre in a car. (no offence) Anyway, i think this will be a real big hit car when it is released but will have to face up to the likes of Bentley Continental GT and Jaguars XJ.

"The DB9 is a ""GT"" replacement for the DB7. A ""GT"" to compete with the Maserati Coupe, Ferrari 460, Bentley Continental, etc. needs 4 usable seats. The optional rear seats in the Vanquish are even smaller that those in the XKR. I reckon that the Vanquish and future mini-V8 will remain ""sports-cars"". Whereas the DB9 will be a more practical GT. All I hope is that they have got the V12 servicing costs under control. No one expects it to be cheap, but........$$$$$"

im sure aston martin will either lower the weight of the vanquish or give it some more power when they release the db9. i dunno if its a smart ide having the amv8, db9 and vanquish all looking similar though. it gives them a distinctive aston martin look, but are there enough differences in the bodywork?
 I don't get it.

Where does this car fit into Aston's lineup? If you want the V-12 and you can afford the DB9, why not get the Vanquish? If you can't afford the Vanquish, it shouldn't be much of a step down to opt for the incredibly beautiful AMV8. It's nice to see the DB nameplate continue, but perhaps it could have been better served by sticking it on a Vanquish somewhere.

"Someone asked me once, ""Why would you pay that much for a car?"". It's something that can't be explained, only seen and Aston Martin seem to paint the perfect explanation. No car manufacturer can create such imagery. (Many italian manufacturers excluded) The DB5 got me interested, and the DB7 got me hooked. But the one thing besides the Vanquish that reminded me of the beauty of these beautiful cars was this; The Aston Martin DB9!"
