Just completed 1000 mile round trip in 3.0 se and can honestly say every mile was a pleasure. Great seats, fine ride, lovely steering, smooth auto box, the only thing that let it down was the average standard stereo. I have owned both a recent 3 series BMW (325I) and we have an Audi in the family and can honstly say the Jag is my prefered option. |

The Jag X-Type and Ford Mondeo may share the same plateforms, with the X-Type's being shortened, but it has given the X-Type handling which is even better than an Audi A4, and the trademark Jag ride is still there. Even the styling is easily recognised as a Jaguar. THIS is the car that will bring more profits to FOrd, and push sales of Jaguar. Here in Singapore, there has never been more Jaguars ever since the intoduction of the X-Type. It still feels British inside. THIS is the Jaguar yuppies will want to own. |

In order to really compete with the uplevel midsize saloon cars in Europe, this car should have been available with a suitable diesel engine right at its introduction and not by the end of 2003 (hopefully). Emotion and ratio go hand in hand in this market segment, looking at the sales figures for the BMW and Mercedes diesel versions. Now when this model finally becomes atttractive, it will be already outdated, unless the diesel version comes with a major overhaul as well. |

I have to say, that I am very impressed with what Jaguar has done. They have intorduced a new car with the intention of attracting the more astute and hip young driver away from BMW, Mercedes and Audi. I think given that 2001 was their first year they have done well. It takes time and consumer feedback to get a design exactly where you want it, but I think Jaguar is headed in the right direction. For starters it's Jaguar. Many youger buyers would love to have a Jaguar, but the older line-up is a bit to old for their image and driving style. Jaguar has an entry level car with 231hp on tap, hmm that's more the the top of the line Merc C Class last time I checked! It is also a permanent 4 wheel drive design. A few more seasons and I think the engineers will have teaked this car to perfection. Can you say X-Type R!? Perhaps 300hp, top speed of 155 limited and in British style to boot. I can. |
