It's a bit comical how the whole "V6 economy with V8 power!" line could have come straight from a 25 year old ad for the Buick Regal T-Type and Grand National. This idea is certainly not new. Further, as back then, they understate the issue since the V6 is in fact quite a bit more powerful than the available V8, not just equivalent. The fact that no one brings up is that it would be possible to downsize the V8 engines in capacity to improve economy... since I think the sound is the key element people seem to like. Americans seem to equate big capacity with more cylinders, but that is a totally spurious relationship. Ferarri's first V12's were merely 1.5 liters! |
