 Little-known detail...

What I think is the most remarkable fact about this F1 car is actually not very well-known. In 1978, future triple IndyCar champion Bobby Rahal ran in the last two races of the F1 Championship for this team. However, in the final event -the Canadian Grand Prix- Rahal crashed his WR5 during a practice session. With no spare on-hand, the team retrieved a WR1 that had been on dispaly in a nearby hotel and quickly set it up for a race. With no ground effects, it was not expected that Rahal would qualify, but he did manage to do so - he qualified the WR1 20th. Though a mechanical failure forced him to retire, I still feel this event proves that the WR1 was an EXCELLENT chassis. It could more be an indication of Rahal's skill, but even back in the 70s the quality of the car was still an important detail in winning races. Its a shame Rahal never got a chance in F1, but being a fellow Ohioan it makes me glad that he at least got the opportunity to underline the sheer awesomeness of this chassis.

I have a model kit of the Wolf WR1 in my room, painted exactly as Rahal's car was in the 1978 Canadian Grand Prix.

Wow I just stepped out of this car and I am completely amazed. This is the first formula car I've ever sat in, and it sounds like this was the pick of the litter in its day. This is a beautiful car, and I would love to hear that Cosworth engine at 11000 RPM, but sadly, we could not fire it up. I also got a chance to sit in a McLaren M8 which boasts 250HP over the Wolf, but my friend said the Wolf would beat the McLaren on any track.

Anyways, I'm totally pumped that I got to sit in this car. Everyone should sit in one at least once in their life.

(p.s. it was a bit tight for my 6'2 frame though!)
 Thanks you!

It was the Wolf that first got me interested in F1. I've had no luck at all finding a picture though, so thanks!!
