It's a Checker Marathon, which was the ubiquitous New York City cab for most of the latter half of the 20th century. They were basically built to be cabs: big, roomy, and as solid as a tank (check out the size of that bumper; perfect for muscling lesser vehicles out of the way ). I'm pretty sure that ordinary citizens could buy them though, if they were so inclined. Why anyone would paint one pink, God only knows.
