I replaced the rims on mine, to change the ride height, but I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. However, this kit was very nice. It fit pretty cleanly, save some smaller bits, and didn't yield any problems.
The most tricky parts will be in painting the window trim (see Dino's tutorial), if you don't have an airbrush, I would just do that trim with a Craft Pen, which you can buy at most art stores.
Overall, all I can really say is take your time. Even today I have a hard time restraining the impulse to start building right after painting.
