Volvo P1800E
In 1970, the Volvo P1800 received several updates, and a name change to P1800E. The biggest update was the introduction of fuel injection and the installation of Volvo's B20E engine. The new 2.0 liter engine produced a respectable 130 horsepower, and could accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. Top speed was roughly 190 km/h, or 120 mph. This new updated model was indicated by the addition of the letter E to the model's name.
This much battle-scarred P1800E, photographed in a parking lot near the University, is a testament to the longevity and durability of these cars. It has likely spent most, if not all, of its life in Charlottesville, as the front bumper bears a University-issued parking permit that dates from 1972-73.
