being a cynic: LPG is a waste product of the oil refinery process, are comes free with the extracting of crude oil. It's value is limited, and if governments would apply proportionate tax levels on a low market value product, they would see their tax income dwindle....

Prices of diesel fuel tend to be higher in countries where refinery configuration is clearly aiming at producing for petrol from the barrel. (depends on the secondary refinery process applied). Our advantageous diesel price is partly resulting from our great national interest in the European trucking business and we want to keep our competitive position.
