that's another point against diesel.

the combustion process is slower, the engine is heavier, its response is slower because of: the combustion process being slower, the engine, and so its parts, is heavier, the injection is slower and more difficult than what it's possible to achieve with petrol as the fuel. high density and viscosity of diesel work against itself. that's why you need up to 2.000 bar to inject diesel in a modern common-rail engine while a common old petrol engine can work properly with 3 bar in a multi-point indirect injection system. obviously, a direct injection system of a petrol engine is going to require more than 3 bar since there is less time available for the fuel to evaporate and mix with the air, but there is no way you will need 2.000 bar.
another reason why diesel are generally less good to drive than petrol engine is the requirement of a turbo system to obtain decent power, which is another thing that add a delay, maybe smaller than some years ago, but some small delays can create a bigger one than what you could expect.
modern petrol engine are going to use all turbos of some kind, even Ferrari will switch to turbo (probably 2) for the next Enzo (while the upcoming new F430 will have a tuned version of the California's engine) (and btw, those pics of a red F430 or a grey 360 heavily modified are mules of the new F430, not of the new Enzo as reported, see links), but their dimensions and so lags are smaller than those turbos used in diesel engines even because a petrol engine is running at pressures and temperatures lower than in a diesel one.
