Yes, I that the CV would still be in use if Charger's were competing because the reliability of the CV's are better than the Charger's.

These cars are easy targets for flaming I guess. At the same time, jurisdictions in the US buy the cars they want. Some areas even use Volvos, because they fit the formula the police need. As I mentioned earlier, pursuits don't involve SCCA champions dodging the police. If your running from the police, 9/10 times you're an idiot and your car sucks anyway. There isn't a need for extraordinary performance. There is a need for durability, taking abuse, room for equipment, and room for the suspects. At the same time, these cars can move out a little better than you might think. If you get the chance, you should drive one.

i doubt the police will let any member of the public drive a police car!
even if you mean just drive a crown vic... its not the same as a police crown victoria version. my dad got to ride in one before... no he was not a criminal, he was on citizens patrol and he got a ride from a cop he knew home, when a call came on the radio, and he said they were flying (for immature people that just means going really fast) down the highway!

Since 2003 Ford has been 'updating' their CV Interceptor.
Since 2003 it now gets the same heads as the upgraded Mustang engine (swirl port induction I think). Lots of tweaks to the suspension. And unlike all youse guys who like to compare it to an asian vehicle, the CV IS a rear wheel drive vehicle. Besides, if you put a tick mark by option 90B (ballistic door panels - threat level 4) and option 68G (Laminated security side glass - keeps MOST pistol rounds out) AND IF your city will allow it, the computer can be flashed for a different set of commands that aside from making it a barn burner, it's upper end is 140 mph (that's 220kph for youse guys outside the US). Which means you are much safer from external threats as you chase down those bad guys at eye watering blurring speeds. So, no she ain't no 'luxo barge' any more. As I said earlier, the suspension has been upgraded, the tranny, engine and power steering unit ALL get external coolers, so it can run hot and nasty without detrimental effect. Now, some of cities won't authorize their Interceptors to go above the 'normal' 129 mph mark. Go figure. And just so EVERYONE understands the 22 mpg. Here in the good old USA we have EXACTLY FIVE vehicles that are sold on the open market that get better that 40 mpg. The REST of youse guys outside of the USA get to choose from over EIGHTY SIX models that get better than 40 mpg. So, yeah, as normal we are gettin' hosed. But, you slap a K&N air filter on it. Then change out ALL the fluids to synthetic (I use Royal Purple myself on all our vehicles), you could expect as high as 25 mpg as you chase down bad guys (a minimum 10 percent higher than stock - sometimes higher).

Actually, that's pretty normal these days. I can point to a couple of other areas where the USA is just NOT leading the pack. Diesel vehicles is one. Electric vehicles is another. Japan seems to be leading the pack on electric vehicles while every other vehicle in Europe seems to be diesel. Here in the USA, we just keep getting hosed... Over and over again. ![]()

The police force is stepping it up one car at a time. They now have Mustang GT's new ones, Chargers, and I have seen Corvette cop cars. Regardless, the Vics are real slow.

I've got a buddy of mine that is one of the leading Taurus SHO guys in the country. He regularly goes to the track and just embaresses those guys driving C5/C6 corvettes and C4 porsches. Of course, his Taurus SHO is ANYTHING but stock. Engine has been completely rebuilt from the ground up. New brakes. New suspension, lowered of course. And God knows what other mods. He took me for a ride once. We entered the freeway on ramp from a dead stop (we have those stupid signal lights on the ramps) and by the time we had entered the freeway, less than 100 yards away, he was WAY over 100 mph. Then he hit the brakes and I had to peel myself off the front windshield. After telling him to 'warn me next time', he went at it again. His car is set up REALLY WELL. He can mod his computer from his laptop while the car is running. I've driven the new C6 Vette and it just doesn't even compare to what I experienced from his Taurus. So, don't be too quick to judge the CV Interceptor. Plus, you did notice that it has the same 'live' rear axle that is on the Mustang GT, right? And if you tweak it just a little, it could be a literal 'giant killer'. Or the most monster grocery getter you've ever seen. I just love a 'sleeper' vehicle. Not putting the others down, as they ARE great vehicles, though I have NOT driven the Charger Equinox, the public CAN DRIVE a CV Interceptor. Granted it will be used. But you would be surprised how cheaply you can pick one up. Depending on the mileage, they can go for as little as $2k (no thx, I'll pass) all the way up to about $25k for a 2006. So, if you just HAVE to have a CV Interceptor, they are available. And depending on WHERE you live, you could most likely get a test drive in one before purchasing one. Targa, While ONLY GM (and Vette owners) know for sure how much a Vette actually weighs, it's around the 4000 lb vicinity. Granted, it's got twice the hp that the CVI is rated (250 hp). Can't remember the torque numbers though. Probably about twice the 287 listed for the CVI.
