new cobalt SS

the old cobalt ss was pretty sweet for what it was, definately better than the civic si, sentra SER, ect...(although not as sweet as the SRT-4). however this new one should definately be a real barn burner.

260hp/tq and 35mpg

Not that i'd ever buy one, but if i was in the market for a "ricer" the new SS would be on top of my list.

At a glance it doesn't look all that different.

On the outside you'd be correct. The only exterior changes are wheel options and I think either 3 or 4 new color choices.

But the sedan finally gets an SS version with forced induction in the form of a Borg-Warner K04 turbocharger (262HP/261lbft) as opposed to the NA 2.4L in the former SS sedan.

The new SS's also get Brembo brakes all around, and No-lift upshifts at WOT.

Do want.

Of course, I wouldn't notice.

But that's only because I don't own one.

Better acceleration if anything. I doubt that it's better than the Civic in terms of quality, finish, design, reliability, etc... The Cobalt can only dream of having an interior like this one:

Fast econobox does not equal "ricer" if you ask me. Pretty good bang for the buck for someone who's looking for a more than decent acceleration but can't afford an EVO, 350Z or Mustang GT....

I'm pretty sure the it was SRT-4 or the Monaro that held the crown for most hp/$
I wonder if this could become a new champion?

The first post if full of fail, the SER and Si were rated better by almost every magazine, and the SRT4 has been rated the lowest + it's not cool at all.

Bingo. Or Japan; Civic, Matrix, Versa, Yaris. Or even back to the US; Ford Focus. In fact, aside from the Corvette, I'd avoid any GM product like it was toxic waste.

Jump into an American econobox... or even into a Mustang or Corvette. The materials are crap. The C5 Vette's interior is just a miniature version of a Blazer... The SRT-4's interior is hideous and amazingly cheap. Honda at least put a bit into it, it looks 10x better imo.

There's something about the Cobalt I don't like. I can't tell you what it is, maybe that its the Caviler replacement or something but I just don't think its that great. It's jus tnot for me I guess, I don't like the overall design even though its not a bad car.

Hey now, SRT-4s are very cool. The sheer fact that it's a Neon that can shame cars up to 3x its price in terms of speed is cool enough.

Granted the Civic's quality, and fit and finish are better, however I'm not partial to the actual design. It's quite haphazard and goofy looking. The Cobalt's looks nicer.

Well i meant the SRT4 that they actually make now, the caliber.

But the neon based SRT4 was equally uncool, nothing worse than a neon that tries to be a performance car, even if it can go 0-60 in the 5 second range.

Nah, we have more and they are proper ones.

The Megane RS, the Focus ST, the Golf GTI/R32, the Astra OPC(VXR), 130i, S3, Leon Cupra...
