Pics of the First Production Tesla Roadster « Earth2Tech

Tesla customers have been waiting ages for the electric sports car, the Roadster, to make its way to market. Today the company’s first production Roadster, what Tesla Chairman Elon Musk called “the first production electric car on the road since God knows when,” was delivered to the auto maker’s headquarters in San Carlos, Calif. We were there and snapped these pics of the inaugural vehicle (check out more below the jump).

Granted, it's only the President's car. But I see another one in the picture. So they've got at least 2 of these things running around.

I have seen two on the road at Pebble Beach in August of 2006, so there are more running than just these two.

They look pretty cool, they're based on a great handling platform, and they're furthering technology. So yeah, I like 'em.

I was specifically asking because calling them "these things" gives a kind of negative connotation....

For a $100,000, it's not bad at all, imo. Automobile magazine absolutely praised their 4-5 page article on it. Not a bad performer either, apparently.

was there any mentioning about the handling compared to say a real Elise? Does the low-end torque of the electric engine affect sharp cornering?

that you can steer the car with the throttle in same way as a petrol or even diesel engine...

The Elise was in the article for a bit, but I can't recall anything out of the blue. I'll look at it again, though.

I think its cool, really cool actually. This is the first production "green" car out there. It's exciting really. I hope they work out.
