I've gotta say that's really impressive, as much as I hate the whole skyline aura. I guess the next big test is the ZR-1 versus the GT-R.

I sure hope this discussion will go without fanboys from either parties...

Anyway, I think it's pretty impressive, 6 seconds faster than the Turbo and the Z06... wow.

Somethings definetly wrong here, there is no way the Turbo could beat a Z06 around a track, various other tests have confirmed this. I think they had a slow Corvette or an abnormally fast turbo.

WHat tyres does it run ?
I note they commented on the "sticky tyres" ... wonder what life is like ?
Might it just be a better tyre is giving hte edge ?

Stop looking at me! Look at me! Stop looking at me!
I thought it was already conventional wisdom that the GT-R was faster than the Z06?

I'm highly anticipating the comparison with the ZR1 though.

Hilarious. Steven Millen is well know for racing Nissans, and created Stillen, an after market performance company that specializes in Nissans.

Put Fellows in the driver seat and lets see the results then. Ask any Z06 owner and they'll tell you its a hard car to dive. Nissan is trying way to hard. Plus the GT-R is fugly.

i'd say that the ZR1 is faster if you look at the spec of those 2 cars although i love the new GT-R it still can't beat the corvette and as for the syline department it shouldn't be made for these kind of comparisons so the ZR1 is definetly a way faster car and I think a better build car because the corvette is still in his own class and the GT-R isn't.

I agree.

The last C&D Lightning Lap at Virginia International Raceway Involved the 911 Turbo, and a C6 Z51 Corvette (not the Z06).

The C6 ran a 3:03.6, and the Turbo ran 3:05.8.

The Z06 ran 2:58.2.

The Porsche Turbo has become a Cafe Racer who's buyers probably compare it to the Mercedes-Benz SLs and I think this shows it; the serious Porsche buyers go for the GT3. The Vette uses a push-rod engine and leaf-springs, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that 1950s technology . . . sorry, 1920s technology can only take you so far.

I really hope that the GT-R and the R8 serve as a wake-up call to the sports car establishment that they cannot sit on their laurels.

Here we go with the push-rods and leaf springs argument again.

Corvettes are terribly built, the interiors are super cheap looking and the materials are awful. I think the C5 was a much better looking car than the C6 also.

As for speed, EVO did a 0-100-0 test and the GT-R and the Vette were neck an neck.

uh, Corvette has independent suspension, and has been since quite a long time now....

Leaf-spring in the C5/C6 are not equal to leaf-spring in a pickup truck, different application and installation.....

DOHC is a moot point when the current aluminum small block v8 in the Vette is lighter and gets the same fuel economy(in many case better) and power output to the european DOHC V8.....on top of the fact that is way easier to package and has lower center of gravity....

Not entirely suprised at how fast the GTR is I have to say....
