Well it's a difficult question to answer. The Challenger remained largely unchanged thoughout its run from 1970-74:

the Charger was introduced in 1966 and went through two major re-designs before the unofficial death of the musclecar era in 1973-74.
1966-67 Charger:

The Charger was totally redesigned for 1968. Minor cosmetic changes were made to the grille and taillights of the Charger between 1968 and 1970. The Charger also gained a sister in 1968, the Plymouth RoadRunner.
1968 Charger:

1969 Charger:

Then another totally new design for 1971-74.
1973 Charger:

The E-Body Challenger was slightly smaller and lighter than the B-body Charger, and both cars offered similar engine options. As for the E-bodies I have always preferred the Challenger's sister, the Plymouth Barracuda. And the styling of the Charger, especially the 68 & 69, earns it my vote.

Sesquipedalian -- a really cool word. It means long-winded, polysyllabic, or verbose. See the word describes itself...isn't that neat?

I choose the Charger ... best looking musclecar ever (IMHO)

Chargers and Challengers were available with a full line of engines .... 225cid slant six, 318, 340(later replaced by the 360), 383, 440, 440 6-pak and the revered 426 Hemi.

Challenger, definately. Incredible styling and power. Awesome engine lineup from Slant 6 to Hemi, and the '70 Challenger T/A was just wild!

i voted charger because it set a benchmark for large muscle cars. the challenger is still a great car IMO but its effect wasnt as profound upon the auto industry.

My understanding ... but not from personal experience unfortunately, is the Challenger T/A and its sister the AAR 'Cuda's did not perform as well as expected, for those who don't know these cars were factory built 340CID V8's with a 3x2 barrel set-up (known as six-paks)with a total of around 1150 cfm (this is a best guess from memory). This was apparently way to much carburation for the 340 ... it worked well on the track but not so well on the street.

I believe there were approx. 2400 of each (AAR 'Cuda and Challenger T/A) made in 1970, really nice examples sell for $40,000 - $60,000 U.S.

As a side note, there was a similar set-up available for the 440 V8's that used different (larger) carbs with a total of 1350 cfm (again a memory figure) and this set-up worked very well.

This is my 1000 post !!
